I have the receipt. I am happy with the scope. I blame myself for not asking for clarification about picking up a used scope at a gun shop.

Best explanation yet.

So sounds like the guy consigned it but wanted to move it faster so he advertised it himself and then sent the buyer to GunStop to pick it up? Or something close to that at least.

I propose the OP chooses a better title for this thread, or it gets locked.

I would much rather read about a positive review of a scope than speculation and accusations about a transaction.

I can't recall if the money was pocketed. I consider this to be a learning experience. Either the seller misrepresented the sale or the clerk screwed me out of 10 bucks. And I agree, without clear motives I shouldn't have characterized Gunstop employee of dishonest act.

The scope is Sightron sii big sky 3-9x42, came with scope caps and ring marks. I own two other Sightron scopes (big sky and SIII), they are great Scopes for the price. SII big sky is on par with Leupold vx-3s and many shooters consider them to be even better. Sightron has pretty good customer service and my SIII is as good as my Meopta meostar which cost nearly $500 more. If you have an opportunity to pick up SIII or Big Sky, do not hesitate.

I have not had any chance to mount this scope yet. I am planning on acquiring a Savage MKIIFVSR 22LR before the winter. As to the value, this particular scope trades used for $200-$300.

Just got the email back from the seller. The item was on consignment. I guess he mislead me. He never mentioned consignment.

I apologize to Gunstop.

Different rant, I am accustom to running into pretty decent guys trading gun related items. Within, last couple of months I had a no show and a lie about a counterfeit reddot. I don't know what's up.

Why do you apologize? They owe you $10 if it was on consignment. Links have been posted by more than one member with the laws regarding consignment sales. You should not have been charged tax.

Obviously you did not read the links. Not all consignment sales are tax exempt. It is still not clear if it even was on consignment.

To your second question, my personal opinion is that as more and more people get involved in the sport, you are invariably going to attract the wrong kind of person and I also think there are generational differences in the way people conduct trade. What used to be done with a handshake and the firmness of your word is no longer possible as there is not the sameness in the concepts of Honor, Fair Play and Moral Standards of Conduct. As the world gets more and more secular and disconnected from the basis of what the older generations grew up as moral absolutes, the less and less you can depend on your fellow man and the less likely it is that you can predict the outcome of encounters.

I would say it is pretty clear the item was on consignment based on the highlighted text. You are right if they put the money in the till they would have had to charge sales tax. The state however does not require that the money go into the till(based on the links provided). I posted a link, and read the part that talked about consignment sales. I am starting to think you are the seller. You seem to be taking his side even after all the evidence suggests sales tax should not have been collected. Do you have some interest in the seller or know something we should be aware of?

sigfan. No I am not the seller but it pisses me off that you want to bash gunstop. What do you have against them. Are you an antigunner who wants to bash a good gun store or what?

I am not bashing them. I don't think I have really said anything offensive. Just that sales tax should not have been collected, which based on what we now know is true. It is my go to place for local reloading supplies. I like the workers and the products they sell. They however should not have collected sales tax based on everything we know. The money should not have gone in the till and not tax should have been charged. Like I said I have never paid tax on a consignment item and know places regularly advertise "no mn tax - on consignment". We even looked up the particular law regarding consignment sales. All they had to do is keep the money separate and everything would have been cool. I don't think it's a super big deal but $10 is $10 and I think the buy has the right to a fair deal.

I don't feel like this is going anywhere. I guess we have different opinions. We pay enough taxes as is, we do not need to start paying taxes that do not need to be paid. If we start paying taxes the government doesn't require, eventually they will require they be paid. Pay the government what is due, nothing more. That is my opinion.

Good gun store? Or what??? I stopped there on my lunch break and only had a few minutes. When I pulled up to park I went right in, said "hey fellas", and responded to their asking how can we help you with "I just have a few minutes and wanted to peer at your handguns". Keep in mind if I saw something I wanted, I would return for it after work. Headed toward the back wall one of them said "do you have a permit for handicap parking?" I replied "no, I didn't see the sign, I won't be long". Then I heard "call the cops". Wow. That's all I gots to say. Down right rotten MF'ers if you ask me. I will never patronize that store again. The front the store has lots of signs on it. There were zero other cars parked in front. I did not stop to read all their signs or pay any attention to a handicap parking sign I did not see. If they would jump to "call the cops" on me so quickly over nothing, well screw them. I hope they go out of business.

Well if you parked illegally in the handicap spot, few minutes or not, that is bad form. Always a different way to call your attention to it but they did ask and give you a chance to move and you admit there were other spaces, Sooooo I'm going to side with the store employees. If that is your habit ,it's one worth working on to break.

Well I figured as much. You'd call the cops to wouldn't you. After all now you assume I make a habit of parking in handicap zones anyways. Seems I'm a bad person and need be taught a lesson or something. Go ahead and side with them crooks in that store. I don't really care. There! :yippee: :stirthepot: :catfight: :type: :gun:
