Taking inventory...

With time on my hands, and cold weather coming, I have decided to take inventory of my guns. I have started a spreadsheet with columns for mfr, caliber, SN, etc. I don't know when I'll be done since I'm doing it a bit at a time. It's fun to go thru everything and keep better track of it.

I think Bud's has their GunDB for phones now and it might be free. Has some nice features if you are willing to do constant data entry

I too use excel though to keep it simple. I record the date purchased and it is interesting to look back and see the different trends.

I don't think I could use my phone for this since it is hanging on the wall in my kitchen where the good Lord intended it to be.

It's a good retirement activity since it doesn't cost anything and passes the time. I spent all my $ on firearms and reloading stuff.

This and renting tables at gun shows to showcase the collection. Seems like there is always somebody there with sky high prices because they came to mingle and not to deal. Good times!

Exactly. I created a folder in my iPhone photos where I have pictures of all my firearms and serial numbers with any associated paperwork in case there’s ever a question in case they are stolen. Fwiw.

I use excel and provide an updated list to my insurance carrier annually. I also store it on a cloud drive so I can see it anywhere. I include, brand, model, caliber, accessories, customization, place of purchase, pricing paid and of course serial number. I also have a picture of each, which i update annually. The other thing I do is put a reminder in my calendar for each to remind me to clean them all twice a year.

I don't know if I'll live long enough to get all that info into a spreadsheet. The photos and customization lists would be really time consuming. I DO have hard copies of all pertinent data in my file cabinet. Expanding the data recorded is a good idea. Maybe I'll work on that once I get the initial listing done.

On my spreadsheet I have make, model, chambering, serial number, when purchased, MSRP at that time, optics, and any special features like type of stock...

My insurance agent was very happy. Helped with the rider on the homeowners.

Agent has a copy, copy on the computer, copy on memory stick stored off site.

Sadly, my stable is not as vast as many of yours so it did not take me long to complete.

Easier to update when needed than it is to try to recreate after a catastrophic event.
