I position them so the scope is cradled in them. They are great for shorter firearms that might not hit the predrilled positions in the cabinet.

Leaning the gun against the scope just feels wrong to me.

They are pretty much vertical so no real force against the scope. All the weight is on the butt. I am not sure what issue would be caused by it. Works great for my limited space.

You are probably right, just can't get past it mentally.
