Possibly some good news for a change. Found this in the PP who got it from the New Dork Times. Remember Clinton's vacant seat? Paterson may actually appoint Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand, a moderate Democrat from Upstate who is endorsed by the NRA. Of course that retard, Carolyn McCarthy isn't happy and says she'll run against her in the primary. But still, maybe some good news here if he follows through on this appointment. :D http://www.twincities.com/ci_11532740?nclick_check=1
our quarrel is not about the value of freedom per se, but stems from our opinion of our fellow men … a man’s admiration of absolute government is proportionate to the contempt he feels for those around him --Alexis de Tocqueville--

I honestly think that gun control is all about culture. Urban hippies and suburban housewives absolutely HATE seeing someone wearing camo at Trader Joe's, or someone with a goatee and a Remington hat at Target. It's the hunting/fishing/self-reliance/shooting culture they want to get rid of, and going after the guns is the way they do it. They do things that make them feel good, and data on crime isn't a part of that, so why should data be relevant? If they can ban some ugly, mean-looking guns, that's a win all in itself, because they live in a fantasy land anyway. Did thumbhole stocks make any difference? More significantly, do they care? I really don't think they do. They just want to push the "bad" culture around, and every gun law achieves that.

Notice I didn't say anything about liberals or conservatives. While we can have opinions about the respective amounts of realism the average person in either group has, I think gun control is more about how your brain works than whether you're a democrat or a republican.

Personally I have a thing against jeans that are 20 times too big warn damn near to your ankles (clearly this is a tripping danger), pants that result in the creation of "camel toes," (obviously the restriction of blood flow must affect the sustainability of life) and facial metal should be restricted to dental work and not include the addition of numerous facial and cranial holes that were never intended to be created and then filled with metal ornamentation (a face plant or inadvertant clash of face and object is sure to result in facial avulsion)....now, you may agree with my fashion opinion, or you may not...but I cannot help but see the ridiculous parallel of the stereotyping the "hunting/fishing/self-reliance/shooting culture" receives as "DAvid Slam" riteously points out, to my own "fashion banning based on bulls@#! safety perception"...perhaps we are protecting our right to bear arms in the wrong arena...maybe its time we get Armani and Louis Vuitton to put some "heat"on the New York Runways and make carrying Sheek and Sassy insteaad of Ugly and Scary. After all, according to the last presidential campaign, what you wear is important political news !!
