Man Struck In Accidental Shooting At Gun Show
Reporting
John Lauritsen
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ―

A Minnesota man is okay after being hit by bullet fragments after a security guard's gun accidentally discharged.

The shooting has been ruled an accident, but it did involve an off-duty Minneapolis police officer. He was working as a security guard at the gun show, when police say his gun holster got caught and his gun went off.

The bullet from his gun ricocheted off the floor and hit a retired St. Paul officer in the leg. Police say the retired officer was not working at the event and was there as a spectator. He was treated on the scene for minor injuries and will be okay.

"Something like this, it's purely an accident. We've got the -- [we're] checking the holster to see if there's any malfunctions, checking the gun to see if there's any other malfunctions," said Sgt. Jesse Garcia with the Minneapolis Police Department.

"You know, with the amount of equipment we wear sitting in cars with seatbelts and things like that, we're lucky this doesn't happen more often," he added.

The security guard will not be disciplined. Police say he was sitting down and leaning back in a chair when his holster got caught and the gun discharged.

I clicked on link and read story. It took me 30 seconds total and I went to public school. LOL

As far as the story goes: A cop's gun went off accidentally because of the holster? mmmhmmm, that makes sense to me.

It must have happened after I left at around 2pm.

One policeman's gun discharges. A retired policeman is hit. I wonder if I had the negligent discharge, would I be "disciplined"?

Sorry to go off thread, but if I post a complete story and not a link, are there copywrite laws that I should be aware of? :?

I wonder if they ever get their holster caught on their carseat? :P

I would be very interested in what kind of firearm he was using and what holster he carried it in. Supposedly, this just shouldn't happen with today's safe mechanisms on handguns and holsters that cover the trigger guard.
