If you could buy any gun

If you could buy any gun, what would it be and why? Your budget is $500-$1000. It can be a long gun, handgun, whatever.

The gun I really, really, really want and need is less than $500, but that is out of your price range.

For that price range I would go with a Glock 35. (yeah, yeah... poo poo plastic) If we had a bigger buget I would get a nice 1911 or .223 based rifle.

Hey wait, need a rules clarification here. Are we being given a thousand dollars? So could we use that 1000 and augment it with other funds or could we buy mitliple guns up to $1000? An how about optics, accessories, ammo does that have to fall within the $1000 too or can we spend more on that?

My lovely bride told me that I should go buy myself a gun for my birthday. My budget is up to $1000.

I'm trying to decide between a few different guns that I've had my eye on. I'm not really looking for suggestions. But since I'm doing this exercise for myself, I thought I'd see how some of you would handle it.

My system is that I keep a spreedsheet of all the "must haves" and anther of the "wants". It has a budget figure per item and is sorted by order of aquisition so when I encounter this "problem" I have an easy solution. It the gun on the top is out of the price range then I move down the list until I reach one that is acceptable. The list is periodicaly reordered based on availability, applicability, and my current fancy. My wife thinks I am legally insane. Just glad to be on a forum that also appears to be.

Because I'm such a nice guy and understand that budgeted money not spent shrinks that category in future budgets, I'll break with my "a fair deal for all involved" policy and sell you a $500 gun for $1000.01

Everybody wins. Gander doesn't get the money, your budget doesn't get cut next year, and I free up some safe space.

And you wouldn't have to chase your brass anymore which is nice (bit of an understatement here). I love my .45 semi-autos but they fling the brass into the next zipcode.

This may sound strange, but I've always thought about buying... a Hi Point pistol, just to find out first-hand whether or not all the hullabaloo about it is true. I've been sooo tempted to pick one up at a gunshow but never could find the courage to go through with the purchase due to the acute embarrassment and social stigma of being labelled a Hi Point owner.

I will admit that I had the same curiosity a while back. I bought one of the 9mm pistols and put about 1,000 rounds through it without a hitch. It was very cheap feeling in the hand, but worked amazingly well, from my experience. That being said I ended up selling the gun, because while it was reliable to shoot, it was too embarrassing to bring anywhere to shoot.
