I was planning to go until heard from a old local that the DNR wants top prices for these auction pieces and starts the bidding at retail/best condition prices. I had hoped to snag a decent 870 or 1100, but won't bother if I have to pay top price. Anyone know anything about this?

They can not start the bidding anywhere you can always make first bid, My experience with HIllre is they have shills in the audience bidding stuff up, they also charge a buyers fee, as opposed to a sellers fee, so you bid 100 its costs you 120 to leave with your purchase.

And I have heard about this auction from so many people there is no way there will be any deals. Might be good people watching, but beyond that it will be ridiculous.

I just got back from it. Outrageous sums it up well. There were probably over a thousand people there. Most folks didn't even get to look at the guns. I stuck aaround long enough to see the first few Mossberg 500s and Remington 870s go for above retail prices. I was happy when I saw the first few were junk, because thats just what I wanted, a junked pump action, but I bid $175 on one and $150 on another. They both sold for close to twice what I bid.

Nuts.

I was there today , it was rediculous . There were only a few decent gungs and they were sold for such a high price that made me leave not even half way trough the auction . My frend and I went to Cabelas afterwords and they had bunch of Russian Baikal ( We use to call it Ij ) over and under 12ga for $240-$320 . If you guys like over and under , that is one of the best and most reliable shotguns outere , check it out . That price is a steal . Too bad I'm looking for semiauto 12ga otherwise I would have bought one for myself . :)
