That's the best answer.

But if you're stuck shooting by yourself at a boring old indoor range, I used to make targets that looked like a Twister board. Then I'd see how fast I could accurately hit all the blue dots, etc.

Here is another thing that can be fixed. Get a membership to an outdoor range. I would rather (and have) drive an hour to shoot in below zero weather in the snow, than go to an indoor range that discourages brass pickup, and doesn't do anything about safety violations when one of the patrons proclaims "Hey man, my gat ain't not workin" and starts waving a loaded weapon around behind the line.

At most outdoor facilities you can practice drawing from a holster, and movement which are two things you cannot do at an indoor range. They are also generally (I said generally) a safer environment, and less crowded than public indoor ranges. I know of two ranges in reasonably close proximity to the TC area that do not have waiting lists.........

I practice the things I've learned in the DHT 1,2 and 3 classes with, again, DonL. To keep rd. ct. down, I load two or three in a mag for reload practice. I shoot left-over targets from IPSC. Keep cranking up the distance and the speed, as long as the rounds are on paper. Some of the harder drills are still pretty slow.

My rifle practice is always fun. How can you NOT have fun with a couple .22lr rifles and a box of Fed. bulk pack? I think my all-time favorite shooting is with a lever-gun while leaning up against a post. I could just stand there and punch holes all the live-long day.
I got nothin'

While I'm sure that will be plenty of fun for me for the first few times out, I know I'll get bored just shooting at a target - especially after I get comfortable with my guns.

Are there any kind of games or scoring systems so that I can make my range sessions more interesting and track my progress from session to session?

Or I guess my main question is...what do you all do to make your shooting sessions fun and interesting when you're just shooting by yourself?

Go to steel shoots and shoot agains the clock and Man v Man :D :D :D :D :D

Attending some of the shooting sports events, you mostly will find any range session practicing the basic's will be fun. If your doing it right you should see improvement in your shooting skills.

I like to put the little orange sticker dots you can buy in a pack from Target or walley world and set them up on the 100yd range I belong to, and see how fast I can shoot them with my old mausers and mosins. Sometimes the surplus ammo shoots wayyyyy off of center so the fun begins by moving your aim not the sights.
Oh yes, open sights. ;)

Sure. Gopher Campfire in Hutchinson (PM Selurcspi for application details) and Isanti County Sportsman's club in Cambridge. Let me know, and I can get you and Application. Gopher is $30 a year, ISCS is $70. ISCS has (in my opinion, I'm sure slurpie will try to disagree, ) better facilities, but both are locked to the general public. I'm not sure if gopher has public hours, but ISCS rarely does.

Thanks for all the ideas!

I have been thinking about trying an outdoor range. I live in Blaine so the one in Cambridge isn't too far from me. And for only $70??? That's crazy cheap!! It's on my list to check out before the snow flies so I have some time...

How Do You Make Your Shooting Range Sessions Interesting?

Try to be more spontaneous and sometimes by candlelight.
I believe we are on an irreversible trend toward more freedom and democracy - but that could change.
