Do any of you have a recommendation for a local 1911 gunsmith?

I need a short trigger installed in a Springfield Professional and I want it to be as good as the current trigger or better.
I'm tempted to send it back to SACS, but it would sure be nice to have it done locally.

I've shot guns that Ryan at Bill's Gun Shop in Robbinsdale has gone over. Had him look at an AR I had and the level of attention to detail and the little things he did / recommended really stood out.

BTW there are 2 (or more) gunsmiths working at Bill's in Robbinsdale. IDK the other one but I'd trust Ryan with most anything gun related.

Alot of times, changing the trigger on a 1911 will not alter the trigger pull. I would try putting it in yourself.

... might be some minor fitting ... but nothing related to the hammer/sear engagement!

Ryan and Jay at Bill's are both excellent gunsmiths. Jay seems to do more repairs than custom type work, but i've seen the triggers that Jay has done, and they are all VERY nice.

they are the only 'smiths that i've had work on my guns. i'm sure there's others (hopefully closer to you), but the option is yours

Thanks for the replies. I agree that changing out a trigger isn't rocket science.
Wrench and I put short triggers in two other 1911's.
I would rather have a professional do the Pro.

I took a couple of different higher end 1911's to Bills once and asked for Ryan.
Actually getting Ryan was like asking for Jesus himself. They tried to get me to allow this little young kid to work on it.
Having worked with many apprentices over the years, I wasn't comfortable with that and was kinda turned off by the whole deal.

That young kid is Jay, and he can do some pretty incredible work. He's smart, detailed and patient.

I have guns that have been worked on by Ryan and Jay. All have been great experiences.

While Ryan is unquestionably the master, I'd trust Jay to work on my guns any day.
