GSW class offered--UPDATE

Postby chinakay on Thu Mar 04, 2010 1:00 pm

There was a thread on this recently but I thought I should start a new one.
viewtopic.php?f=52&t=12427&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=gsw

I finally heard from someone who is willing to put together a class. He is an active paramedic and is also an EMT instructor...he is also a good teacher.

He wants to know what level of training we'd require. I emphasized to him that this would be a pre-ambulance action class, and that we're a mixed bag as far as medical expertise is concerned.

He wants to know how many people, of course, and where we'd be holding the class. Cost hasn't been mentioned yet. Neither has a date.

So...official roll call: Please tell me if you are really interested and intend to make it to this class. Please indicate your level of experience, ie None, First Responder, or higher. We'll work out the rest of the details later. I'll talk to him again tonight.

I'd be interested. No recent experience in this area.

China: Thank you

I was ARC First Aid and CPR certified in the recent past but my certification has lapsed.

I could approach the Oakdale Gun Club about classroom use but have no gaurantees.

The two people I talked to about this were of the opinion that a standard ARC FA course with some minor tweaks for wound care and bleeding control might do it depending on how far we're looking to take it. One of the comments was that we'd be just as well served spending the time formulating an action plan. where is the phone? where is a backup to that? Where it the FA Kit? How will the responders get to us? Where is the nearest ER? etc...

After that, it's about control of bleeding and stabilizing until the paramedics arrive.

Obviously that works better at Oakdale than out at Gopher Campfire as far as response times.

If i can make the date I would be in, and I think so would Ashley

My expierence level: Expired First aid/CPR, taken a first responder course for a job but there was no test

Ashley: Nursing school was under three years ago, currently works NICU though so adults aren't her focus

I'd be interested, depending on the date. I am a practicing registered nurse, BLS certified, STABLE certified, Neonatal Resuscitation Program certified. Thanks!

I'd tag along with this lady and try not to get in the way, while learning something.

Red Cross basic first aid & CPR, expired last year. I work evenings, so I can probably only make it if it's on a weekend. Also I'm broke so I'd need about a week of notice per $10 of cost.

I'd be interested, but I'd need ~2 weeks of warning.

I have been CPR and AED certified in the past, but it's lapsed.

I've had several primitive surgery experiences (both self surgery and on others). Nothing more serious than a couple of stitches though.

I am current in First Aid, CRP and AED.

Would always be interested in something more advanced.
