Where can I find reliable moon clips?

Postby Stradawhovious on Wed Mar 10, 2010 8:57 pm

I'm gearing up for the steel shoots, and need to find some more moon clips for my S&W 625. I see some at eBay, but question their reliability. Any advice on where I should buy them, or it is a "they are all the same" kind of situation?

Wilson Combat in AR has them. So does Brownell. The blued ones work. The phosphate ones, not so well.

Just stay away from those plastic ones. I haven't met a steel moonclip for .45 that doesn't work, yet.
Tk Products, Brownells. Doesn't really matter.

Years ago you used to be able to buy 100 at a time from Ranch Products for $35, or something? I have no idea what the price is now. They came covered in grease and you had to clean them up but....the price was right.

Not a very good website. You have to call or e-mail them.
Yeah, but I shoot with THIS hand.

Yeah, I wouldn't even dream of using the plastic ones, they just look scammy and cheap. Based on the statement that you haven't found a steel one that doesn't work......... yet......... I just went ahead and ordered the ones off of eBay. Heat treated blued steel, 100ct for $37 after shipping. Beats the hell out of the $2 a piece price elsewhere. I will keep you posted as to how they work.

Do you have enough Kydex to make 96 more moonclip carriers?

Probably. The whole point will be to load all the moon clips the week before the steel shoot, so I don't spend half my day busting knuckles and thumbs loading and unloading them. :). Besides, they don't last forever, and I'd rather have too many than not enough.

Ooooh! I can always use another 100 moonclips! That way I can load up 600 rounds for nationals, chamber check them, and not have to remoon any halfway through. (leaving more time for beer drinking at night)

It is good to see that you can easily adapt to better prioritize your time. ;)

FYI

PayPal has frozen the account of the seller of these moon clips. The reason was that a GunBroker buyer paid with PayPal and they back traced the auction number to an inert grenade auction and closed the PayPal account.

I've just spoken to Bev and she is going to begin using http://WWW.Gearpay.com in the future for Gunbroker auctions, but you can buy direct from the website http://www.oldsargesdropzone.com and pay with a credit card.

BTW, I've done business with these guys before and they've always been above rerproach.
