HELP! Need a safe mover in Chanhassen!

Postby 45Badger on Wed Apr 14, 2010 10:10 am

I moved into the lovely city of Cahnahassen yesterday. The movers could not/would not move my larger safe downstairs. It's in the garage now but that is not a viable location unless I build a temp controlled space around it (not gonna happen anytime soon). No phone service yet, no phone book, and no internet until next week (I'm in the public library). Anybody know of a safe moving company or safe store that does moves in the area? Please post any info here. Thanks!

Myself and 2 others helped a buddy move his safe recently after he had trouble finding a company to do it. He called some piano movers and they wouldn't touch it.

ETA: It went fairly smooth, except it broke off the overhang on his stair tread for the step-down.

When you figure it out, I guess I would suggest cutting a couple wooden blocks to wedge snug under the nose of your stairs as you go.

I don't know. I'm a "do it yourself" kinda guy. Is it really that big that a few guys, some rented equipment and some beer couldn't do it? :P

I've moved several 36 inch and 42 inch safes for friends. (I'm no where close to Chanhassen. Sorry.)

Have always used an appliance cart and 4 guys in and out of some tight basements. Also moved my 30 inch by myself, into my house (up 4 steps) using 1 1/2 inch PVC pipe as rollers.

I'm 59 now. That was maybe 10 years ago.

I have a appliance cart somewhere you're welcome to use if needed.

I have moved one safe and I will pay to have it done if it happens again. I can make more money. Do you happen to know anyone that moves vending machines for Coke/Pepsi or any other company? They have a appliance dolly that has a motor on it for stairs. Or call the local Gander Mountain and ask who they use to deliver their safes.

On a recent move, I used a company named Ruth Piano Movers. They were very efficient, careful, and strong!
I'd recommend them.

45Badger,

I have access to a appliance cart and have moved a safe before. Word has it(mrokern) I might be meeting you en-route to the steel shoot this weekend possibly. If you have a couple of extra bodies if stairs are involved I would be willing to lend a hand. I think something can be figured out if you need some help.

Ain't nothing that can not be moved with a lever and purchase. all it takes is patience.

Having helped Bbeckwith move fun things before (we work together), I'll vouch that this is an option. 8-)

No, not that guy. Or that other one either.

I've got an appliance dolly (Heavy Duty) - Doesn't have the stair climber wheels, but it does have the rails. I'd guess, between a few guys from the forums, and some good old fashioned elbow grease, this could happen without much trouble.

Thanks guys! Moving company contracted a local heavy item mover. They sent over four guys this morning and they had it done in 30 minutes. Now I can start "nesting" :D

Looking for ward to meeting a couple of you this weekend. After the last 10 days, we seriously need some trigger, boom, and clang time :gun:

There's always the Egyptian method, too.
