gun buy back thoughts

Postby jmw55018 on Thu Jun 17, 2010 12:52 pm

ok those libs are giving out $50 gift cards for revolvers and $100 cards for semi autos.

sounds like a fair deal right? :(

so all those innocent firearms are going to their demise.

has anyone here thought of organizing a gun buy back program? if this were done then instead of having them destroyed we could have them auctioned off or whatever and the proceeds donated to help some needy group or whatever.

i dont know anything about the legalities involved with something like this so i was hopeing some of you "in the know" would give this some thought.

just think of how good it could look, local permit holders hold gun buy back event to help cut crime. all guns collected auctioned off to law abiding citizens with proceeds going to benefit (insert group here).

just thought that if liberal anti gunners could do it maybe we could do it better.
just because im paranoid, it doesn't meen the government isn't out to get me.

Anyone giving up a weapon for that little money has a reason to unload it.

IMO, these programs promote more gun theft. Now if you could somehow make it so there's no amnesty and coordinate with the police to arrest possessors of stolen weapons trying to cash them in, I'd help in that event.

Taking guns "off the street" does nothing to curb violent crime. Gun buybacks are based on flawed thinking. That's not something we should be a part of.

Besides, I don't think you'd find a metro police department that would support that type of buyback. They like to see the guns DESTROYED, not put back out "on the street."

i was just trying to make it sound like they would in the news.

they might support it if the proceeds were donated to them :P

the idea is that the guns wouldnt be destroyed. they would be sold at a profit to do the community some good. people like money, thats a fact. so it could work.

How about making sure they get returned to their original owners....

I'd guess, for every one 1950's Colt or S&W some widow brings in, you're gonna get 1,000 Hi-Points ... good luck auctioning 'em off. Image

Not somethin' I hadn't thought of, myself ... though. Image

I gave them a semiauto 22 that did not function and got a $100 gift card. I am happy with that. Not many people turning in guns. I looked in box and saw 4. A derringer,sa revolver, and 2 small autos.

Is it an American Express (or similar) gift card you can use anywhere or from a certain store?

I would have offered to trade them for the SA revolver.

Not surprising. I'm sure all the thugs fine, upstanding citizens of Minneapolis read the story in the Star and Sickle that mentioned Mexican drug cartels pay up to $1000 for smuggled weapons and opted to hold out for a higher price.

The sa revolver was nothing special. It looked like a cheap 22

I bet all they get is junk. Mine was a Iver Johnson TP22 that didn't work and I couldn't find parts. So it was junk for me. I bought it in 1983 for $120
