OMG, I've Become TV Show Gun Critic

Postby Thor on Mon Jul 30, 2007 3:24 pm

I was watching Star Trek Voyager today and there was a shootout with WWII firearms. One of the characters was firing what appeared to be a 1911 and with every shot, she woulod push the weapon forward when she fired. My thoughts weren't too complimentary.

That is intended to give you another 150-175 fps velocity.

Also, in the case of a female shooter or a lightweight male, it helps overcome the recoil to assure a full cycle, thus no limp-wrist, which can result in FTC, FTE, FTF, and a variety of other problems.

Wow, learn something new every day, but I would be afraid to confirm this over my chronograph.

I think it's more a matter of anticipating blast and recoil -- a common problem with personnel trained only on electromagnetic beam weapons.

Also have the stun vs deadly settings to deal with

Come to think of it has anybody ever head anything but "phasers on stun" ? Something like "phasers on roast" or "phasers on dead meat"?

What is/are the other setting(s) ?

Come on there's got to be some trekkies out there.

Yes, but you ever heard anyone say "phasers on kill" ? Or is it just assumed?

I find myself paying attention to, and often being annoyed by, gun handling in TV and movies that I never knew to look for prior to becoming a firearm owner.

Lately, I've been watching Walker, Texas Ranger whenever I come across it. It's such a camp-fest and gives me a lot of laughs. One episode I saw recently had Walker and another Ranger rushing up to a suspect's house with 1911s drawn and their fingers all over the triggers. You'd think they'd make up for the corny plots and unrealistic situations with some proper firearms handling...nope.

It looked something like this:

Walker has the weirdest looking 1911 I ever saw ;-) I know, I know, it's arepresentation of the rush up, not the guns.

If I could push a gun forward at 150fps, I wouldn't need a gun, I could throw the bullet harder.
