Won a rifle

Postby Viseprints on Tue Oct 19, 2010 9:44 pm

Well, my door prize luck continues. I won a Mossberg 702 Plinkster tonight but have a few .22 rifles so am thinking about swapping it towards another gun. The dealer has a CZ 12 ga. O/U, a Taurus .357 6" revolver, a Henry .22 lever, a Ruger LCP and a Ruger LCR, plus a Savage .17 bolt with bull barrel. I have none of these guns at the present time and was wondering what might be a good choice. I realize you don't know how much I hunt (seldom) or what type of range work I prefer, but would appreciate your opinions. I have no pocket pistol now nor any bigger handgun than a 9mm. I shoot a .223 Rem 700 and own a Browning Auto 5.
Yeah, I know it's a personal thing but welcome thoughts from you. Thanks.

Congrats on the win. If you don't already have a wheelgun, I'd take a good hard look at that 357.

The Henry .22 witht the brass receiver is very nice. Although I would like to get a LCP, would like to shoot one first though. Otherwise any on the list would be nice.

+1 on the big boom wheel gun. can shoot 38's through it for fun, and .357's when you want to open some eyes

I would go for the .357 revolver as well.

I would go with the Savage .17 because I'm a rebel.

I vote wheel gun because thats one of the guns I beleive every household should have.

I have a Single Six Ruger if that qualifies as a wheel gun, but assume you mean a "big guy" gun. I'm leaning towards the Ruger LCP based on the carry theory of "better a little one than nothing at all." (for you young guys, I am talking about guns here, nothing else) Do any of you have an LCP and how do you like it? I guess I'm leaning that way not because I like to shoot little handguns, but because my bigger Glock 19 and old Ruger P89 don't fit well in my jeans pockets. When I look at .380 rounds, however, I wonder if they are more prone to tick off a bad guy than deter him. Not that I'd like to get shot with one. Is there any work being done to improve the stopping capabilities of the .380 cartridge?

There's only so much that can be done due to the pressure limits of the cartridge (as with any cartridge), but here are two manufacturers that take its performance right to the edge:

Personally, I carry the Cor-Bon.

Thanks for the link, Mac. Cor-Bon looks like it would be effective.

I traded the free rifle for the LCP. Why? Because I will carry it more than I would shoot the .357 right now. In fact, I'm going for a walk in a few minutes and will carry it for the first time. Hope no buck deer makes a move towards me in the woods.

I need to get a pocket holster or some such device before it gets full of pocket lint though. Thanks for all your recommendations. I appreciate the wise input.
