Springfield XD Forum?

Postby cmj685 on Tue Jul 31, 2007 3:59 am

I am thinking of making the Springfield XD (maybe in the .40) my next gun, and thought it might be worthwhile to peruse a good forum and listen to experienced owners talk about the gun. I googled it, but found only a couple of forums that didn't have the feel I hoped for. Anyone know of a real good Springfield XD forum where a person could get lots of good info, good and bad, about the gun? Thanks.

That is a good forum and has been around quite awhile, even before Springfield got the XD line. It use to be called I believe the HS2000 forum, the predecessor model to the XD line.

I've got an XD9 Sub-Compact I'd be happy to let you try. From what I've read and heard, there are very few XD owners who regret their purchase(s). In fact, many Glock fanatics have been converted to XD fanatics after shooting one; some even going so far as to sell all their Glocks and replace them with XDs.

From what little I know of the XD, I would probably own one of them before I would own a Glock. However, right now isn't a good time for me to be buying new "toys".

I like the XD, Owned one, and would like to own one again.

That said, to compete with Glock, they NEED to get parts availability and third party parts out there.

I have a whole stack of XDs. They are tough as nails. 45,000 rounds without cleaning with no problems other then ammo. Keep in mind I shoot the whimpiest ammo that I can find. They are what I carry and compete with. The same grip angle as the 1911, more safety features then the Glock, and cheaper. If you want a hi cap .45 (13+1), the grip is even small enough to hold on to.

You can get most of the accessories that you need. Inside of 3 months one will be able to simply buy *all* the parts to make a full on race gun. There are drop in components for the trigger (or have the pro at Canyon Creek do it), various mag releases, mag well, base pads, texturing for the grip, barrels, guide rods, etc. pistolgear.com to get an idea of prices. The recoil spring on the full size 9mm/.40/.357 is a 18# 1911 spring. Not too hard to find. The sight dove tails are the same as Sig. i.e. you put Sig sights on your XD.

The reason why I am holding off on going all out and building an IPSC open gun, is that all of the other internal parts are impossible to find. Extractor, ejector, firing pin, springs for the safeties/trigger group. Having said that I have had very good luck. Springfield does *NOT* sell them.

I just that holds up for the WI state match on Saturday. :)
