When you clean your hunting rifle after season ...

Hi All,

How far do you tear down your hunting rifle for cleaning after hunting season? The poll is in order from not cleaning anything to 100% disassembled.

It depends if it has been fired.

I'll clean the barrel if it has been fired. Otherwise it just gets wiped down.

I'm not anal about gun cleaning but do like to clean them if they will be sitting for a year. Regular range guns hardly get cleaned at all.

My slug gun generally gets a little wet, if it doesn't get rained or snowed on, it's condensation, so I detail strip in and lay it on a towel in front of the wood stove every evening.

I don't generally "clean" it though, beyond a single pass with a bore snake.

How come you're putting your guns away after the season? Winter is the best time to shoot as the barrels cool faster and there aren't so many people at the range.

25-50% since I fell through the ice sort of. Pulled the barell and wipded everything down inside and out.

If it was wet or rained, I've learned the hard way to pull the barrel and action and get down inside the stock line.

I would say I'm about 85%

I take the stock off, barrel off, clean, dry, and oil all the parts that come out without removing pins.
