Florida Permit Times

Postby RobD on Wed Dec 08, 2010 10:14 am

Anyone have recent experience with Florida Non-Res permit turn around times? I know the site says UP TO 90 days, but looking for any recent estimates... May be going there for work in FEB, want to see if it's worth the money.

Before you guys jump in saying "it's good to have anyway" I have the permits I need right now, and will get Florida someday... but finances as they are, It would be better to get it later, unless I can use it before then.

I applied for mine early December 08, got it the beginning of Feb 09. You might get it in time, but no guarantees.

Well, I applied in March of 2009 and it arrived in Sept 2009 a week shy of 6 months, they were pretty much overwhelmed with apps, not sure about current times........................... ;)

It has been my experience that they are quite honest and willing to tell you on the phone. Give them a call.

If I remember right, they told me if it hadn't been at least 60, or maybe it was 90 days since I mailed it, not to call and ask!

Mine took around that 180 Day mark too, however depending on how long your going for, you may not even need one....

"Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

Section 1. (1) Notwithstanding s.790.01, Florida Statutes, a resident of the United States who is a nonresident of Florida may carry a concealed weapon or concealed firearm while in this state if the nonresident:
(a) Is 21 years of age or older; and
(b) Has in his or her immediate possession a valid license to carry a concealed weapon or concealed firearm issued to the nonresident in his or her state of residence."

The same page says:
Senate Bill 954, passed by the Florida Legislature and signed into law by Governor Bush in April 1999, allows residents from other states who are licensed to carry concealed weapons/firearms to carry their weapons in Florida. The one provision, however, is that those other states must be willing to recognize and honor concealed weapon or firearm licenses issued by the State of Florida so that Florida licensees enjoy the same rights and benefits when they travel to those other states.

Minnesota does not recognize Florida.... and is not on "the list"

Just last Friday I received a renewal packet from the State of Florida. My license expires 5/11.

Strangely enough, they are asking me to submit a new set of fingerprints...

Also, if I remember correctly, if you want to even carry pepper spary there, you need a permit.
