Top Shot Deux!

Postby Snowgun on Thu Feb 10, 2011 1:16 am

So i'm watching top shot second season and wondering:

How can I make an awesome zip line moving target system for this summer's IDPA? (JoeH and I rapped about this)

Why is the homeland security guy the only one who seems to use excellent grip, form, and can actually hit stuff?

Why are some dudes using a frickin "cup and saucer" grip on a 1911! How the hell do they get on the show?

Are the two girls on the show some sort of "diversity hire" or did they infact beat out other applicants? (they do seem to have impressive resumes, 2x 3gun champ!...but maybe in a girls only division?)

What the hell is junior nationals? What do I have to do to get my 10 month old daughter prepared to win like, 10 of these? Should I get her to concentrate on trigger finger control when she is eating her num nums? :? Is string cheese a better training aid? I'm pretty sure she's right handed, is it too late to train her for right eye dominance?

Never too late, just got to convince the wife (without a Dr. visit) that she's got a lazy eye and you have to put one of those patches over the left eye. Problem solved!

Sadly I decided the folks making this show apparently care more for entertainment value than they do displaying the world's top shooters.

shooting from a zip line? come on. fun to watch, but I didn't think it did much in the way of competition between excellent shooters. The events were so different than most of the contestant's background, it ended up being a contest of who sucks the least. That doesn't even begin to address the drama aspect which further reduced the show.

Haven't caught any of the second season. Its still a show with guns, so I'll take that over Grey's Anatomy any day...

I wonder with the initial rifle shot chooseing teams what or if the Sharps rifle was sighted in for.
If it was sighted in for 200yds and some hit 2-3ft low and left they suck, Even with the right to left cross wind it wouldnt of accounted for the low hits.
The show sucks but not as bad as the other options in the same time slot.

I like to watch the show, but get frustrated.

I would like to see them give the participants serious multi-day practice, to see who can master the firearm rather than get lucky with their first attempt.

We have all picked up a firearm and taken a great shot, only to follow up with a bunch of poor ones.

There is a reason competitions involve multiple runs and winners are the fastest/most accurate over a number of attempts.

Top Shot is just another B.S. reality show. Hope we get to vote the shooters off the island...err, Firing Line.

I'd rather watch paint dry.

I dunno, I rather enjoyed last season. It was nice to read the back story on Ian (last years winner) in one of the gun rags as well a few months ago. I thought it was at least good mainstream exposure for competition shooting in that it portraied it in a way that might make some fence sitters ok with it.

I liked last season also - except for the cowboy shooter who admitted after the show he had not shot any "real" ammo in a long time. Only the trick stuff he uses for shooting while on a horse. I forget what he called it now - but how can you get on a show and talk yourself up like he did and be an utter failure when it comes to basics? Dunno.

Yup, the fact that he kept coming up the weak link and they kept putting Kelly up for elimination instead of him grated on me, but I guess that is the drama part of it. Better than watching Glee though. :P

Again they picked a bunch of very specialized shooters verses generalist that have alot of overall expereince. A generalist would kick butt, its clear that some of these guys aren't even that great at thier own speciality. I mean a national pistol champ that can't hit a pool ball.

I'm trying to apply the engineering KISS principle (Keep it Simple Stupid). So that means no electronics, force is provided by gravity or maybe an initial spring. Plus I want to make it simple to set up, and easy to carry/store. Hopefully I can try to make some time for this...

So I'm really confused about this, both from this season and last season. Is it the cameras? Are they just used to shooting NRA airgun or 22lr competitions and can't handle the recoil? Is all the crap on their shooting resume from 15 years ago?

Two guys looked like they pulled hamstrings during the pool ball match. Jesus, I would have least made sure I could run a little if I knew I was going to be on the show.

I think the homeland security guy or the airforce special forces guy is gonna win it. Either that or the golf pro. :D

That golf pro is a prick. Chris Tilley can shoot. I don't know what his deal was on that challenge but he turned it around for the elimination. Chris Tilley is the youngest person to become a USPSA Grand Master at the age of 14, or the youngest person, at age 21, to win the USPSA national championships. Tilley won it again two years later.

Snowgun- we will have targets traveling on a zip line this season. We can do it! :ugeek:
