I read Joan Peterson's Letter to the Editor in the Strib on Sunday as well (someone referenced her letter on the show).

Her sole frame of reference was her sister being shot 20+ years ago by her psychotic husband. If you've ever listen to Joan in person - she references this at least 2x per speech. Apparently this makes her an expert in firearms and self-defense. I thought Andrew's response was poignant and respectful -- while destroying her premise. Velvet hammer he is!
