Talk to their funny looking gunsmith, Ryan. ;)

I believe they have a shotgun there that has only half duracoated so you can see the difference. Otherwise Ryan would be happy to show you some results for a variety of colors that they have. He can answer anything you need to know, everything I've seen from there has turned out nice.

Duracote is definitely a Matte type finish, the closest example would be the surface of electrician's tape. It's not going to look like bluing/parkerizing, and the silver type colors are NOT going to look like Stainless or nickle. However, they give a neat "soft" look that is hella hard and durable.

Remember, you can do crazy stuff like stripes and camo while you are at it, the one's I've seen look awesome.

I believe duracoat also has a tool on their website to look-up certified/factory trained duracoat painters.

Thanks everyone. I just would hate to spend 300+ on something that turns out horrible. Thats why I like to see references and work done. It's kind of like getting a tattoo but it's for my ar.

Just to toss another idea into the hat, why not take the drive up to Chippewa Falls in Wisconsin
and have it done by the guys who came up with it, Lauer Custom Weaponry.

From the citys it is no more than 1 1/2 hours and is a neat shop to check out, small, but very intesting.

I'd show you, but the only camera worth looking at pics from is having a little trouble with the memory stick.

Added bonus for that trip.....

Not to hijack this thread, but how does duracoat hold up on barrels that get fired heavily enough to get way too hot to touch on a repeated basis?

From jims gun supply faq. "Duracoat can withstand temperatures as high as 500-600 degrees F. With "normal " shooting, your barrel will never get close to being that hot. If you are fortunate enough to own a transferable machine gun, or if you like to "blaze " with your semi auto, do not put Duracoat on your barrel, as your barrel temperature will rise to over 1000 degrees F. In those cases, use DuraHeat which can handle 1800 degrees F. "
