S&W MP 9

Postby SAM on Sat Apr 09, 2011 4:13 pm

Purchased one of these at Bills in Robbinsdale. Love how accurate it is--how it feels in my hand--everything about it. However, this is the first handgun I have ever owned that when you slap in a loaded mag with the slide locked back----the slide slams closed. It does not do that with an empty magazine ???????????????????

Perfect, makes getting the gun back up and running even faster!

How does it work for knocking bowling pins off of a table? :P

My M&P Pro 9 does that too. I had it happen a couple times on my Sig 226 but that was about it. The M&P will do it every time you slap a mag in hard. Not sure why they do it.

A lot of Bersas do that as well. The spring that keeps the slide lock lever down doesn't put a lot of pressure on it, so it
doesn't take much of a jolt to let it go.
They won't do it with an empty mag as the follower pushes up on the slide lock lever.

It's a "feature" not a defect

Glocks will do that too. From what I have been told is when you slap the mag in, it jumps the slide over the slide release thus closing the slide.

Not sure the exact truth to that because during my LEO training they tell us not to do that rather to insert the mag and grab the slide with an overhang grip (gross motor skill) and release it. Reason being is that in a combat situation during a reload, you shouldn't rely on slapping the mag in to close the slide...

Food for thought...

My Kimber Warrior will drop the slide when a mag is inserted somewhere between firmly and harshly.

M&Ps are nice guns, feel better in my hand than a Glock, anways. I'll probably get one eventually.

On one of the Magpul videos they mention this as a feature of the Beretta 9, if you do it at a 45 degree angle. Slap it straight, no go. I have found the same to be true for my Glocks and my M&P 45. As far as I'm concerned, it saves one step in the reloading process. As the Magpul guys would say, value added (if you do it the same way each time for the same expected result).

Really? I can get my buddies Glock 19 to do this all day but have never gotten my USP 45 fullsize to do it, is this a compact only thing maybe?
