Little update on my SBR adventure: Kirk DiLorenzo, Deputy Chief at St. Louis Park PD called and had never heard of a Form 1. He had me e-mail him a copy (I also sent a Form 4 just in case) and he will be contacting the ATF for more info.

I wasn't expecting a quick call back. I wasn't even expecting one to be honest. So I'm appreciative of that, but we will see what they say about SBRs.

Glad to hear you are good to go. I just saw this thread or I'd have put in my two cents earlier. I did a Form 1 right after we got a new chief. He'd never seen one before. I didn't present it to him as if it was an option for him to sign, merely a peice of gov't paperwork that was required before I could build the rifle. That seemed to work just fine. He predecessor signed w/o problems and knew what the form was. I'd also instead of calling and asking, just show up with the complete form and a post-it note that says "sign here" so there is no confusion. Mine got signed while I was in back getting fingerprinted.

SBR's are cool. Much, much cooler than an AR pistol. Well worth the $200 and any minor hassles to deal with when travelling to other states. For an SBR AR-15 build, the $200 may not even be a significant portion of the cost once you get done adding up all the parts, optics, and other accessories. And I don't even worry about engraving the lower, since it's really only a $100 part.

Good luck!
