Range etiquette

Postby crshooter on Mon Feb 11, 2008 9:54 pm

Hi all, I've been lurking for a while but this is my firs post.

Sorry if this seems like a dumb question.
When I visit Bills in Circle Pines, I am usually carrying one of the weapons I intend to shoot. Is it considered OK to proceed to the line, unholster my carry gun, drop the mag, and unchamber my carry ammo, then load my practice ammo and begin firing?
Along the same lines; At the end of my session, Is it OK to reload and chamber my carry ammo and reholster at the line?

I don't really see any other way to do it short of showing up not carrying. I have not noticed how others do this.

Thanks

Generally as long as you are in your lane, facing down range, this is ok, keep the muzzle downrange as much as you can.

Welcome crshooter......... :D

The firing line is the place for loading and unloading your guns, not at the back table. Guns should be brought to the line in the case and removed pointing down range (or in your case remove from the holster). Magazines are ok to be loaded at the back table and brought to the firing line. I'm sure there will be a lot more helpful suggestions. There is also staff members of Bill's that post on the forum, they are very help, if you have any questions you should ask them at the range. They will not deduct bullets for questions.

Not a dumb question at all.
That is the exact procedure I use. I also just pocket the round that was in the chamber and reload this into the magazine at a later time.
Welcome aboard.

Slightly different then I do it. I normally just fire the round that was in the chamber, then when I'm done, load up, drop the mag, put a new round in, then re-insert the mag.

While on the line, draw (or holster) slowly while keeping your muzzle down and then faced downrange, especially when removing a live round.

As long as you aren't working out of the holster or practicing draws it isn't a problem.

Shoulder rigs are another matter. If you must enter wearing one, please ask the range officer to demonstrate the procedure.

Thanks for all the welcomes and advice, I'm glad I found this site.
What most have suggested is pretty much what I've been doing. Good to get others thoughts though.

Thanks again
