Strange experience at gun shop

Postby tazdevil on Sun Nov 06, 2011 11:09 am

I have been having failure to feed issues from my P232 (known mag issue, was sent ones with too deep a "crimp" placed at top of magazine), that originally a local Sig Armorer tried to fix by filing down. I called Sig and they said to send it in for service, will cost $50 round trip, but the dealer might be able to send it for cheaper. I took it back to the dealer and told them what I was told, they said "well, lets have our gunsmith look at it first". Which the 'smith only confirmed exactly what Sig had said before. Then the gun shop salesman said "Ok so do you want to send the gun in?" I said absolutely, and then he said "Do you have any paperwork stating you are the original owner?" I said "Only the receipt from here." Sales guy: "So you have nothing to send to Sig stating you are the original owner, how are they to know you didn't buy this second-hand?" Me: "I bought the gun from here, NIB, so I have whatever paperwork (just the sales receipt) you gave me, in my safe at home." Sales guy: "Well I would immediately take the gun out of here, as for all I know, you don't own it in the first place, as you don't have any paperwork or the receipt with you." I walk out, not wishing this to become more of a confrontation. My question first is: Exactly what paperwork is he thinking I would have other than the sales receipt? Second is, is this normal behavior?

Bill's south. Never dealt with this sales guy before, have seen him there many times. FWIW, I have had good experiences with other sales staff there as well.

Bills should fire the guy immediately for making the above statement alone. How do employees like this even get hired in the first place? Is there no screening conducted to ferret out the total misunderstanding that the above statement reflects this person holds about gun laws?

I wouldn't speculate until I find out exactly what happened here, but something sure doesn't sound right. I send in warranty work all the time, for guns we sold as well as ones we didn't. Factory never asks for a receipt and I don't either.

I've seen maybe one or two asshat sales people at Bills, and then not surprisingly, I never see them again.

I would talk with management and see if you can get to the bottom of it. Either its a miscommunication, or someone isn't cut out for sales and customer service. Either way, this isn't the type of service I've grown accustomed to at Bills, and I wouldn't let this soil the whole shop for you. If I ever received this type of sercive, anywhere, I wouldn't leave without talking to management.

My experience is likewise, as I first posted, for the most part the sales people there are knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. My concern was that there was some form of paperwork I was missing, and that I would even be accused of stealing (although I know that wouldn't stand up, a phone call a hour later Bill's had my information on date of sale, etc., and was a different person I was talking to).

I really should give that Bill's employee polo shirt back to Joe and quit ****ing with his customers.

I'll be the first to admit that when I worked sales in the auto parts industry, I wasn't, how we would say, polite to all customers. But nice stops after a certain point. But I never accused somebody of theft when I watched em walk in with something. Anyways..

Every time I've gone into Bills, everyone there has been more then willing to answer my questions, let me look at different guns, well just plain helpful. Don't let one bad vist change your impression on it when it will more then likely be looked into and rectified.

I'd give Bill's South a call and ask to speak to the sales manager. I've found him to be a reasonable and straight forward guy.
