Remington 552 Speedmaster with Leupold VXII 3-9x40 scope. Gun functions flawlessly with .22 short, .22 long and .22 LR. Date code on barrel indicates manufacture date of 1962. Gun has a fair amount of surface scratches on receiver and stock but is in perfect mechanical condition, built with all metal parts no plastic whatsoever. Very nice scope in perfect condition with Leupolds' lifetime warranty. These guns are $550 new and the scope is $300 new, priced for quick sale at $275.

I dunno..

Old, possibly probably beat up scope worth 50% of new? = $150
Beat-up .22 rifle = $125?

Doesn't seem that far off to me... :hmm:

Most of them that I have do just fine.

Now, CBs, they don't cycle.

He's obviously "translating" the original 1962 value of this gun forward into 2011 dollars. It was probably $29.99 new in the back of an issue of Popular Mechanics in 1962. Can you imagine anybody spending $550 on a new 22 rifle back then??

That was probably $19.99 NIB in the back pages of issues of Popular Mechanics.

What are you referring to here that does not seem "legit"?

Are my eyes crossed, or is that really a left-handed rifle?

I wonder how many of those were made....

Undervalued. New price is $593 according to Remingtons web site and their big selling feature is.........you guessed it interchangeably being able to use short, long and LR ammo.

I had a 550-1 that would shoot all 3, as well. It was a good gun, but groups would get wider when the barrel warmed up - much more so than my 10/22.

I'm not sure it's worth what the seller is asking - it doesn't matter what they cost new.

How many used .22s did anybody buy over Thanksgiving?

+2 My uncle and I ran every type of ammo we could find through our rifles, "Function Testing" CB's shot well, super quiet, but you gotta stroke it by hand every time.

½ left handed, the action bar, and charging handle are on the left, but ejection port is on the right
My left handed uncle like's it, I charge my AR15 with my left hand, but it's a RH rifle.
Not sure how many exist, but they are still being made, Buds lists new ones at $504
Wikipedia
The rifle was manufactured from 1957 to 1988 in a standard model and is presently available in an upgraded "BDL" model, which has checkered butt stock and forearm with a gloss finish.

The $550 "new" price, is kinda misleading as the new rifles have much better adjustable sights, and nicer stocks.

I think the receiver mounted $$$cope on this rifle is the only thing that isn't legit here, it should be mounted to the barrel.
