5.7x28mm, Only Models by F. N. Herstal?

Postby BANGBANGBOOM on Wed Jan 18, 2012 3:30 pm

I am extremely intrigued by this caliber round and was curious if anyone knew a lot about them in the way of muzzle velocity v. barrel length etc.? also I am curious if F.N. Herstal is the only company who manufactures anything chambered for a 5.7x28. Also, if they are the only manufacturer, is it just the Five-seveN and the P90?
Thanks for looking! Have a Nice Day

I'm not a ballistics expert (by far) but I like the 5.7 and have one. Some people liken it to an expensive .22 mag. I like it because it has a 20 round mag, can be extended to 30, and it's fun to reload. My gun/caliber choices usually revolve around either a fun reloading challenge (5.7, .357 sig....) or a desire to control the loads (all calibers more or less) especially in the big bore stuff like .44 and .50.

so far, the only 5.7x28mm guns are from FNH. the P90, PS90 (semi auto version) and the FN FiveseveN. i can't wait for the patent on the ammunition to let up, then i'm sure we'll see more from this nasty little cartridge. also, i'm pretty certain it'll bring the price down on ammo. i'd like to see a "traditional" style gun in this caliber, instead of the FiveseveN pistol. i mean, lets face it (and no offense to Rodentman) but they're ugly guns! really cool, but really ugly!

Savage did make a couple rifles in 2010 chambered in 5.7x28. But they are going to be rare since it doesn't look like they still offer them.

Out of Stock and I doubt they will have any more. You could look around on GB or AA and maybe find one.

You can buy a 5.7 upper that fits just about any AR.

Yeah they're rather ugly and look like they should say "Crossman" on the slide. But not as ugly as the Rhino.

Cool guns, just for being different if nothing else. But, yeah, ammo prices are a party pooper.

Savage is chambering it in the 25 lightweight varminter, along with the .17 Hornet. Interesting...

Lemme know when they bring out a MAC 10 in 10mm!! Then I might be interested. As it is, having that puny little cartridge in a $900 BLOWBACK gun that's as ugly as I am seems like trying to gild the lilly and rob the buyer. I'll stick with my EAA 38 Super which holds 18 rounds of real 357 mag power loads in 9x23 Winchester, and costs half as much...

I've got the AR Dean mentioned a couple posts above, and it doesn't say FNH on it. :D

Nice little shooter, actually. Super reliable and feels like shooting a .22LR, especially with 27-grain bullets (I prefer 40-grain bullets, though). In some ways I like the AR in 5.7 better than my PS90.

I only discovered this caliber and the FN Five-SeveN a few months ago, and have been intrigued ever since. Any gun that has caused so much concern about being bad and needing to be banned is automatically interesting!

That's about the only reason I've kept mine instead of swapping it for a 1911. :D

Agreed. Add to that the fun and challenge of reloading it. Also it's light and easy to carry, if not conceal. I put a Hongue rubber sleeve on the grip. Feels better in the hand. Did that with all my Glocks too.
