Permit to Purchase? I have a question while filling it out.

Hello,

I am trying to apply for a permit to purchase a firearm, but I was reading the form and it has a dealer section.

Do I need to have a dealer fill out this section?
Will I be able to only purchase the firearm from the dealer listed?

I am just a bit puzzled here, because I see some FTF Firearm deals, but the seller requests to see a permit to purchase.

So if I wanted to do a FTF deal on a firearm, how would I go about getting a permit if I need a dealer to fill out the form?

This will be the 1st firearm I will purchase in the state of MN. My other firearms, I bought from the great republic of Kalifornia, where I had to pay about 50 bucks in fees and wait 14 days for each firearm purchase.

I am not positive, but when I applied for a permit to purchase some 6 months or so ago, I don't recall the dealer section. Since you are not one, you don't need to fill it out. Just go to the sheriff's office there in Buffalo, and ask the nice folks behind the glass and they will help you. No problem.

I do believe that once upon a time you could go to the dealer purchase the gun and they would send all that in, and get it back in 7 days and then give you your permit and gun. They seemed to have gone away from that and the local pd takes longer than 7 days. But just fill in all the info about yourself and when you go to turn it in they will look over it and tell you if you missed anything. But just make sure all the personal info is correct

I am shopping at the moment.. haven't nailed down what, where, and when yet.

Just trying to get paperwork done if I can in advance to be as flexible so I can jump on a deal if I see it.

Purchase permit is free and takes 7-10 days. I got mine at my local cop shop in 6 or 7 days. Carry takes getting a class and a month plus $160ish total. Get both.

Get your permit to purchase, just fill out the individual part, but I have found that filling it out at the window where you are going to file it works the best, MOST window people are pretty helpful making sure you fill it out correctly.

A carry permit works just as well but takes up to 30 days from when you get your paperwork straight and filed. A permit to purchase will get to in less than 7 days. often quite a bit faster. I use the permit to purchase instead of my carry permit in most cases. I just prefer to limit who knows I carry.

The top portion of the form is for single-use transfers. If you're applying for a permit to purchase, leave it blank.

+1. Not only does it look better, it saves you the hassle of getting a purchase permit renewed every year. The carry permit is essentially a five year purchase permit.
