Postby solidsnake556 on Fri Apr 13, 2012 5:16 pm

Anyone know of any free public gun ranges in MN? I know a couple in Wis but was wondering if MN had any.

The only one I knew of closed and is managed by a club now. Ranges(some) are cheap to join though, you will spend more in gas and ammo than range fees in a year.

I hear there are some in the Bemidji area, but since you have no location in your profile or ask if there are any public ranges in a specific location, I can easily answer you question.

Yep, all over and no, not a single one.

Up here in Bemidji we have gravel pits and the like that are free. List a location so we can help ya more efficiently.

State Forest: set up your own targets/pop cans/bowling pins. Just clean up when you're done.

My buddy who lives in Wis only took me to 2 public ranges. Both of them are about 40 minutes away from the twin cities. I don't remeber how to there, all I remember was it's very close to hwy 94. I'm in Maplewood BTW. Thanks for the replies.

Just east of 78 on the first road south of Hwy 10 by Perham there is a public 25/50/75/100 yard rifle range and a shotgun range.
It turns out that what you have is less important than what you do with it.

As far as I know, the Babbitt Conservation Club is still a free range. I remember I called the President of the club a few years back, and he said to simply clean up after yourself and follow the posted rules. No range officer any time I've gone, only shoot paper targets, and police your brass. Nice range. 50, 100, 200 ranges I believe.

Nope. Fort Thunder is WEST of 78, but it is only about a quarter mile from this range. This is directly south of the water treatment "ponds" that you can see from 10. If you are going south on 78 from 10, it is the first left, then it's on your left.

I have been looking for the same thing for a while, but no luck.

But as for shooting in a state forests. Do you need hunting license to discharge a firearm or can i just drive up to Sand Dunes State forest, find an area with a good natural berm and start shooting targets? and of course clean up after I'm done.

I'm happy going to Oakdale but Being a student, 15 bucks a pop + usually paying for a friend (their first time) gets pretty expensive after a while.
