Mosin Crate Coffee Table.

Postby Stradawhovious on Thu Apr 26, 2012 8:54 pm

Well, I picked up a piece of glass..... stopped by home depot for lumber and hardware...... played with a bunch of power tools..... swore a bit..... drank a lot..... and came up with this.

All I need to do is clean up the silicone seal on the glass and paint the hardware.

Thanks. I should be clear that the only thing I Replaced was the top. The rest is vintage mosin crate. Fun project though!
Still can't believe the wife is letting me keep it in the living room.

That is cool :bravo:
But, only three rifles? :cogitating: :hmm:

Are you going to lag bolt it to the floor, or leave it loose to make it easy for folks looking to turn their lives around?

Very cool Strad. I have been hoping to find a Mauser crate to do something similar. I was thinking a stand up display, but the coffee table idea is awesome.

The real question is if it's allowed in the house, or relegated to the man cave?

Yeah. Only three. For now...... but I'm only putting Mosins in it, and I'm working on getting more. Hae to find the right ones to fill the collection......

Bolt it to the floor? Most likely not. It will weigh about 300lbs when I'm done with it, and honestly, even if it were bolted to the floor, tempered or not that glass wouldn't be that hard to get through. A dedicated thief would have it either way.

Thanks! I would start by asking around at the retailers that sell mosins.

Really, it was my Wife's idea to have it in the house. I love my Wife. I saw a picture of something virtually identical on the intrawebz, (so no, this isn't my brain child) and brought it up with her. It now proudly sits in front of my couch in the living room. :D

Here's the kicker..... She took a look at the original top of the crate after I removed it and said "that would make a really nice headboard."

As a former luthier, you have turned to the Dark Side, my son!! From working on fine musical instruments to doing carpentry work on something as parochial and ugly as a Mosin crate?? You should change your handle from Stradawhovious to "Nortonwhovious", in refernce to Art Carney's character!!

Besides, my wife wouldn't let me have something like that even in the basement!
