Painting/dying the glock....

Postby zero on Wed May 16, 2012 3:44 pm

So i saw that people were using rit dye to dye polymer mags, i would like to know if this technique is durable and if i could do it to a glock frame? On a side note whats the best way to paint the slide? I know i cant be the only one who has thought of this, i hope someone has tried it too!

People have been dying lacrosse stick heads for years. They look pretty good after bashing some poor dude into the ground. Pretty sure it will hold up to your mitts.

Dying it black has good results. :)

If you paint it you'll have issues with chipping/scratches. Duracoat and other products stand up better and last longer than standard paints.

Well, after hours of perusing the internet, everyone seems to be confident that you can't dye black mags/frames. Makes sense, you can go darker, but you can't go lighter.

With that being said, I'm determined to try it out tonight.... So I'll let you know.

I have been dying rc car parts for years. But for it to work right, you choose a color and start with a white or light gray plastic. Starting with black, you'll achieve nothing.

Cerakote is your best bet. Give me a shout if you want to get it done. :)

Have any samples of your work? I have had a guy do some work for me, He charged 50 bucks for a Glock slide, but I hate paying for shipping. Have you ever tried Cera-Hide? Do you know what the difference is between the two? I was thinking about putting a Cera-hide coat of OD on my FDE Glock.

Here's a 10/22 stock I just did a couple days ago in the H-265 "flat dark earth". It is available in probably 100 different colors/shades. From pink to flat black. :)

I have never used the cera-hide stuff, but it sounds very similar to cerakote except maybe mixed with a dry film lubricant.

Cerakote is much more durable than duracoat. Especially on polymer.

Just so others know; that's Cerakote and not a Rit-Dye job on your 10/22. With the dye, you can only go darker. Not sure what Paul is upto with the bleach but it doesn't sound like it'll end well.
