North Saint Paul Police switched to .45 ACP

Postby Spike on Tue Aug 07, 2012 8:15 pm

We had a block party tonight for National Night Out and I got talking with a couple of the NSP police and reserve officers. It sounds like they've switched from a Glock .40 to a Glock in .45 ACP. I don't know which model. I don't really have a point to make with this. I just thought it was interesting when a lot of departments seem to be going back to 9mm.

Richfield PD went to the 21 several years ago when they dumped their S&W 99s. I don't really care what I use as long as it is at least 9mm. I have seen all work and not work, a handgun is something that is easy to carry with you but not something one would knowingly bring to a gun fight. That is what the long guns are for.

Maybe too many beers. My brain parsed that as:

my favorite cartridge for recreation and procreation

Now I need brain bleach. Single Malt Scotch maybe?

I know the Egan PD was carrying Glock 21's a few years ago.
May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?

Northfield PD just got in 26 Gen 4 9mm Glocks. They were using Glock 45's. Seems cost of ammo was definetly part of the reason. Investigators carry the 19 and the Patrolmen 17's.

Right............so the cost of .45 ammo was too high, but there's enough money to get 26 NEW 9mm Glocks?????? Pure government thinking right there!

Kinda my thought at first, but I suppose they look at things in the long term payoff.
