New Gun Shop - Arnzen Arms - Job openings

Hello, I can confirm the rumors of a new gun shop opening in Eden Prairie near Menard's (in the old Hirchfield's space), as I am the owner. I've lurked these forums in the past, but never posted. I created an account to tell you a little about this place and see if anyone is interested in working with us.

First, the jobs. We're looking for a couple of full and part time sales associates. Must love guns. You can apply on-line at http://arnzenarms.com/job-application. There's a craigslist posting here with more details.

The store is 5200 sq ft, with a 4000 sq ft showroom. The address is 12494 Plaza Dr in Eden Prairie, which is right next to Menard's and behind the Harley dealership. I think it's a great location. I'm hoping to open sometime in October.

This is a gun shop, so we plan to sell all types of firearms, ammunition, and accessories. Unfortunately, there will NOT be a range at this location. Gunsmithing services are also out for the time being. Gander's "gun world" is right across the highway, so I'm not going to be competing on selection, though I hope to have good selection of several hundred guns. Unlike Gander, we'll be selling guns below MSRP, not above it. We'll probably end up between Bill's and Gun Stop on pricing. Margins are very low on firearms and this location is expensive to rent. There will be a loyalty program offering deep discounts, but I'm not ready to talk about the details.

Honestly, I haven't made a decision on this yet. Here's what I'm struggling with : #1 There's a lot of inventory / SKU's to carry to be considered "serious" about reloading supplies. #2 Gun Stop isn't that far away, and it is a pretty good source for reloading supplies. #3 I'm putting most of my $$ into guns and towards the build out of the store.

Right now I'm looking at reloading supplies as an "expansion opportunity" once I'm up and running. I may start out with some generic supplies (powder, primers, presses, scales etc.) and move into the caliber specific items (bullets, brass, dies) at a later time.

I would wait for a fairly long time to see how business is doing before you even look at reloading, because the points you have made are very valid. You need tons of SKU's to have a relatively full line, and you are just too close to Gunstop and John-Boy to ever have a hope of being anything but #2 on that side of town, and that's if you're fairly successful. If you were near the Gander Molehill in Woodbury that would be an entirely different thing, but you're not. Best of luck on your venture and giving Gouger Mountain a good case of heartburn, and some day I'll stop in and say hi. I'll be the guy with the big white fluffy service dog and a Guncrafters 50GI on my hip...
