Gunstop/Lampi auction today

Postby srs on Sat Oct 27, 2012 4:01 pm

I was there from about Noon-4. They kept a good pace. It don't have a good command about market price for most of the guns sold so I don't know if lots of good deals were to be had. My impression from the sale price of some of the more common guns is that not many good deals were to be had. I probably saved $20-30 on a Sig p238 w/rosewood. After gas and my time (it was among the last dozen or so guns), I probably lost money. Anybody come away with a good deal?

I have yet to see a Lampi auction have good deals on guns.

Enough so, after following them for 6 months, I quit following them. It's like people get stupid bidding at them. Over retail price on a used gun.

A good auctioneer is like an good lawyer; a pain in the ass unless you need one.

My buddy got a pretty good deal on an over/under, but most guns went for a price close to retail for NIB when you look at total cost including the 10% auctioneers fee.

I watched online on and off all day. I kept scratching my head with the full retail price, then 10-15% buyer premium, sales tax, and maybe a transfer fee. The Gunstop people probably thought they should have auctions more often, LOL.

I got a Sig p238 w/Rosewood grips for $500. With fee and tax ($590), it came in a little bit less than what it would cost retail + tax or shipping + FFL. So pretty even there. Also got a Remington 1903A1 modified 30.06 for $475 ($555 w/fees and tax). Gunstop asking price was $1,100. That was a spur of the moment purchase and I think that was a decent deal. Sold my SVI on GB to finance this and I still have close to $500 left.
I also thought many of the actions ended up close to or maybe even exceeding retail. Not that that's bad, just not too many deals.
Anybody know of local 1903 experts or resources I wouldn't find on Google?
