ALEXANDRIA AREA THIS SATURDAY (21ST)

Postby jerry45 on Thu Jun 19, 2008 11:16 am

If you happen to be up in the Alexandria area on Saturday (21st), please stop in at the Carry Depot as we will be having our second advanced shoot. The shoot will be an all day event starting at 9AM on Saturday. Here are some of the things to look for:

1. Ambush Alley: The alley is a walk thru the woods wherein different target systems expose themself for you to dispatch. This venue was a big hit at our May 25th event and has been reconfigured for this event (the alley will be different for each event so as to surprise the participant).

2. On our West and North ranges, we have a variety of steel targets (plate racks, dueling tree, cross over, etc) as well as a bowling pin shoot. Much of the foregoing will be a competition shoot wherein you will duel with another shooter and either be eliminated or advance to the next level.

The advanced program at the Carry Depot was never intended to be a for profit venture. We charge a mininal fee ($20-$30) to hopefully cover insurance, port potty, and other miscellaneous costs. This fee may vary from event to event as we determine what our participants want us to offer. As an example, we hope to re-introduce the mini-seminars that were so popular at our May 25th event. Some of the seminars offered or to be offered were/are "point shooting", "beginning pistol shooting", "surviving a knife fight", "intro to reloading", "evil guns, the AR and the AK", "women's non-firearm self defense", "feeding and maintainence of your Glock", "holster exercises - drawing from concealment", "gun takeaway exercises" plus many more based on our participant input.

For those of you coming from a distance and like to camp - we can offer you a shaded site but no other amenities (basically a place to pitch a tent or park a camper).

Let's keep our shooting hobbies alive! You have quite a few great opportunities offered thru this forum - take advantage of all of them!

Keep watching the http://www.carrydepot.com for future events. The site is not always current due to record carry permit training and gun sales (plus I am not as young as I used to be).

Hi Jerry,

I really enjoyed the May 25th Tacti-fun shoot, and was—of course, disappointed that there may not be another. Ambush Alley was a hoot! I could have done that all day. The dueling tree was a challenge, and, loads of fun. I will be there, with more ammo and cash (I was short of both, but I went anyway and loved it).

Thanks,
Michael

To the rest of you like-minded-fun-loving-gun-nuts,

Come and show your support for Jerry, have some fun, meet people, and hone your skills. There is a lot to gain by attending such a versatile shooting range like the Carry Depot offers. Likewise, there is a lot of knowledge that is freely shared by Jerry’s support staff and the rest of the talented shooters.

There are 2 types of people in the world…those that shoot—and those that don’t.

I have noticed that a great many of you put a lot of effort into going for breakfast and talking about shooting. Why don’t you come to the Carry Depot and do some shooting. Please, don’t take offense just car-pool up to Alex and keep the sport alive.

Til Saturday,
Michael

It should be noted that this is no way affiliated with Tacti-Fun.

Jerry has decided to step out on his own here without Paul or Jon's continued participation.

Although 'tis true, Jerry has a fantastic setup for outdoor range activities. If you missed out on the May 25th event, take a tour up for this one. You won't be disappointed....and, the fun quotient is quite high. Fun is fun...regardless of where it is conducted or who is involved in organizing the event!

If I didn't have a birthday party and poker party at my pad that day I'd be there. (Well, we all know that isn't entirely true since something always comes up.)
I had a lot of fun last fall, though!

sounds like fun. unfortunately, I'm paying for a day off Wednesday with a day of work.

Although I don't feel my inital post indicated any affiliation with Tactifun, nor did it mention Jon or Paul as Instructors/participants in the current Carry Depot training programs, please accept my apologies if anyone interpreted my post as farmerj did (needing clarification). I consider both Jon and Paul to still be friends of the Carry Depot and I welcome their support and participation at any time. If anyone feels a need to place blame for the demise of Tactifun other than what Paul has previously posted (insurance costs, gas prices, etc), I will accept 100% of that responsibility.

As most forum members would agree, Paul Hovick is truely an outstanding instructor (as evidenced by the overwheming demand for his presence in other states for instructional pruposes). As an extremely close personal friend of mine, I sincerely hope and expect to have Paul's wise counsel and participation in all future Carry Depots endeavors.

Bottom line, I make mistakes. I am not perfect. I try to own up to those mistakes and offer apologies if I have offended anyone.

Thanks to all of you for your positive remarks and support. To all the friends of this forum, please come up and see us - we promise you a good time (even if only witnessing Paul Horvick snoozing in his favorite recliner)!

Tomorrow's event is going to be spectacular with some very unique exercises. I have to admit that I embarrassed myself today in going thru the routines the first time. It is amazing what the smallest amount of additional pressure can do to one's firearm proficiency! Now that I have said that, do not try to bet me in any contest (I spent all my money on target systems).

Have a great weekend - do some shootin' somewhere!

Jerry;

You clearly do not need to apologize to anyone. Your post for the upcoming event does not indicate ANY affiliation, participation, or encroachment on Tacti-Fun. You clearly stated that it is a Carry Depot event.

Any issues with Tacti-Fun were discussed as far it needed to be disclosed to members of this board in another thread. It is unfortunate that an issue or concern was even brought up. :didntdoit:

SO, do not apologize and carry on........................ :bravo:

Jerry suggested that..."..., please come up and see us - we promise you a good time (even if only witnessing Paul Horvick snoozing in his favorite recliner)!"

Actually, I have two favorite chairs. There is the indoor one, probably the most comfy, and then a nice outdoor one for when the gout is acting up (and it is today! I hate getting olde!)

Jerry tells me that Ambush Alley is harder and trickier...I suspect I best do it on my own with no witnesses, and then I can, hmm....exagerate....my performance level!

I wish Jerry the best. It was most fun.

But if this is not a reference to Tacti-Fun or reference to it's founding, then I am sorry for mis-reading into the statement.

Who was the crazy person that came up with the poker playing scenario? (a) That person has way too much spare time on their hands and (b) it is clever to a fault! What a hoot! And....clotheslines on Ambush Alley? Way too much fun.
