So for my sons Christmas present.....

Postby shooter115 on Sun Dec 16, 2012 5:30 pm

My son was born January 31st 2012 so this is going to be his first Christmas. My wife has been going crazy buying him more toys than he'll ever know what to do with. My gift..... his own AR lower :D My thoughts are to give him a major component every year and by the time he's about 12 years old, we'll be assembling his new AR on Christmas day. Providing he stays on the nice list ;)

What ya'll think brilliant or stupid idea :?:

That's a great idea! Hopefully you won't have any trouble getting parts, as it seems a "BAN" is most likely on it's way.

Buy ALL the pieces now. Won't get cheaper, we both know that. Also in 12 years, God only knows what will happen with our gun laws.. Ammo?

You got a great gift idea going, but I concur with those who suggest aquiring it all now; including a supply of mags and ammo.

I said give him a component every year...... Not buy them ;)

Minus a barrel and stripped upper, I've probably got enuough parts laying around the house to put it together now if I wanted. As far as ammo goes, I don't think I've bought a factory loaded 5.56 round in at least 10 years.

I think it's a great idea.
I wonder if an AR-15 will be an antique rifle in a decade.

My favorite xmas/bday gifts were always tools.

Just wanted to follow up on my old thread. Since last Christmas I decided to include birthdays as good enough reason for a part as well :D

Here's how my long term project is coming along:
Christmas 2012......Stripped lower
1st birthday..........Lower Parts Kit
Christmas 2013......Stripped Upper
2nd birthday (coming in Jan)........I'm thinking bolt carrier

I have all his parts now minus a barrel, handguard and optics. So basically as soon as he's big enough to help build it, he'll have his own AR.... Mama is not near as keen on the plan as I am.
