Obesity (in non smokers) has an annual mortality risk of about 325,000. Add in the other co-morbidities that go with obesity such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease etc and the annual mortality rate is higher than for smoking.

Fun.

I'd like to have the chart just show deaths to other people as opposed to self-inflicted ones. Second hand smoke for example, instead of smokers who kill themselves. Most of those are accidents or self inflicted.

I'm confused. I've heard recently that heart disease is the number one killer of Americans yet I don't even see it on this chart.

The chart is just some causes of death, not all.

One million deaths annually due to heart disease. The majority of those deaths are due to poor lifestyle choices and preventable.
