The Sportsman's Guide

Postby LePetomane on Fri Dec 28, 2012 5:16 pm

Has anyone on the forum eve purchased anything from The Sportsman's Guide? They are located in South St. Paul. If you have I'd be interested in hearing about your experience.

I've been there a few times to purchase ammo. I think in the store part of it is basically overstock surplus. They have a very large warehouse. You fill out a slip with a product number and description and they go get it while you wait. They have catalogs for you to look the info up.

Bought stuff there many times, more on line than at the store. Never had any issues I can recall. If you plan on spending some dough, get in the buyer's club, or what ever it's called.

bought online many times and very pleased. visited the store and IMO it is a crap hole. great for online prices, not worth driving to.

I've had an issue or two with products not being as advertised. But they've been quick to remedy the situation.
I also had one issue with an item that was backordered, multiple times then cancelled without me asking. I questioned it, they apologized for the oversight, then it turned out to be not the same one I originally ordered.
They sent return shipping and I got my refund quickly...
Think they even sent me a coupon. I'd bet they farm out their 'item descriptions/details' to folks who've got no business writing about the stuff their selling.
This might be about 10% of my orders with them - Other than that, they've been fine. And when I've ordered at the right time of day; I've received it the next - That's with their free shipping offers.

My biggest problem, why I don't order from them often anymore is usually by the time I actually get the catalog, all the stuff I'm interested in is sold-out and/or out of stock.

The other reason, I don't frequent as much is; they haven't got much in the way of milsurp any more. They're becoming more of a mail-order Fleetfarm. Well there's a million of those type online, and I could always just go to Fleetfarm.

Order everything from ammo to clothes, shoes, boots outerwear on line all the time. Fast shipping and have never had a problem. Never been to the store. I avoid the cities whenever possible. I would recommend the place.

I have had good luck.......I check online for availability, mark down the stock #'s and drive down and pick it up. Basically 494 and Concord if you hit the store.

They are good to go. However, I do agree with AFTERMATH, the folks who do their descriptions need to be replaced.

You can get anything at the store that is in the catalog. However, in the store they often have overstock, or leftovers from the catalog. I have gotten some good deals on random ammo on the clearance table. Otherwise, the main thing I bought there was boots, and was generally pleased with the price. I have a friend who lives nearby so it was worth nosing about when I was in the area, but I really wouldn't go out of my way to make the trip.

I've bought a bunch of stuff from them. In their buyers club also. They have great deals on clothes too, camo stuff, tactical pants, etc...

Also have a spot behind the counter in the back for returned stuff at 30% off.

Some great deals to be had there if you're persistant.

Never bought anything from them, but I know people who have and they had no issues.

Sportsman's Guide is basically surpluss and overstock, I think. They've been in business for a long time and started out as a catalog mail order company before Al Gore invented the internet.

Most the ammo I buy is usually from SG. Like most others I skip going in and order online. There's plenty of online only coupon codes out there that make it a slightly better deal depending on the amount purchased.

Current known codes: SH805 for free shipping over $75, SPGGUNS12 for $25 off $185, SGEBATES12 for $20 off $150

The store can be tricky to find if you've not been there before, it's around the back of the building, not on the Concord side. SE corner, take the next east road south of the building off of Concord and aim towards the big tanks. I got a decent price on some 9mm ammo, and if you need big boots or outerwear, the overstock store has some stuff to look through.
