New Year - New Guns

Postby mikereilly on Tue Jan 01, 2013 7:48 pm

So what are people looking for in the coming year - I have started out with a Rhino and will be expanding my M&P line.

What are you looking for in the coming year?

I'd like to get an SR1911, if I can find one. I'd also like to get an AR of some sort.

Something in .308/7.62. Preferably like a SOCOM rather than an AR. Also, if I can find someone to go prairie dog or coyote hunting with I want to pick up a gun appropriate for those tasks.

Seeing as how I just bought my Sig, I doubt that I'll have the budget for a new gun this year. However, if the money tree I planted in my back yard before the frost set in takes root and gives me an early harvest I'll probably be looking at an AK. Then I'd probably want to research a good BUG, then if my wife ends up getting into shooting (let's hope this is the year!) I'd want to let her find a gun that she'd enjoy shooting (making an assumption, but she's a tiny little thing and I'm thinking my big steel frame guns are probably a little much for her to shoot comfortably, but hey, she could surprise me!). Then of course I'd want to get a Ruger 10/22 just for fun, as well as a Sig Mosquito for the same purpose. Or maybe just a .22 conversion kit for the 229. Oh, and I really liked the FN SCAR last time I held it, and a 1911, and a double action 44. mag revo, and....

Dang, now I'm thinking I should have planted two money trees... :D

6 more mags for my XDm
6 more mags for my 22/45
10,000 more rounds for my 22/45
1,000-2,000 rounds .45ACP target ammo (If I wasn't married, I'd buy 10,000 rounds)
1,000 hollow point defense ammo in .45ACP
Springfield XDs with 2 mags
..and I'm ball parking that at all around $2,500-3,000, which isn't much.

I'm still deciding on a good rifle to get, so whatever that would be, but that's low priority. I may invest in AR parts if the prices drop again.

I'm not planning any major firearms purchases at the moment, pretty happy with where my collection is right now. Perhaps a lighter "field friendly" .308 bolt action rifle to compliment my LTR style bench rifle if something comes along... I plan to spend more time working with my kids on getting into shooting safely and proficiently so more time at the range and less chasing gear for a change if all works out this year.

I know this is old school but I would like to get a lever action or pump .357 or a beretta cx4 in 40 S&W. That would give me a rifle in the handgun calibers I have. I'm of the feeling ammo may be more important to have in the future and the fewer calibers I have the easier it is to keep up with.
