MWCA St. Paul RiverCentre Gun Show - Worth going?

Postby AriGold on Wed Jan 23, 2013 9:09 am

Greetings everyone this is my first post even though I've been lurking for a while. My question is if this is a good show to attend while keeping in mind that inventory is low?

Is this considered a larger venue compared to the other shows? I went to a show a few weeks ago in Bloomington and it was primarily junk like Hi-Point.

Any insight appreciated?

For reference here is my want list:
Sig 522 or GSG5
CZ 75
RIA 9mm 1911
Sig 226 or 229
Mossberg 464 SPX

It's been a while since I spontaneously bought anything at a gun show.
I wouldn't expect the current market to offer up any deals.
But in the right frame of mind they can be entertaining.

If the dealers have the inventory, they'll be there and be gone shortly thereafter.

Right now, I don't know if the dealers even have them.

I won't be going. Partially due to a lack of funds if I DID find something, and partially because I don't really think they'd even have what I want.

More than likely, the only item on your wish list that you'll find will be the CZ (possibly the P226 or P229), and given the current climate, you can probably expect to pay a premium for them. Also, the show is downtown, so you have to factor in parking costs, too. Better to wait until March or April and attend the shows at the State Fairgrounds - larger shows, more vendors, better selection, and (hopefully) the hysteria should have died down to the point where guns are actually available and prices aren't through the roof. That said, MWCA shows are generally better than the Crocodile shows.

I'm waiting for the April MWCA show, because they're adding more knife displays this year.

In the past, the MWCA shows have been very educational, and worthwhile from that perspective. This year is a little different, but judging by the Rochester show a couple weeks ago, I still would go (if I were you). You may meet someone who can get you want you want, or you may see that current market prices are higher than expected. Either way, not going means not knowing.

Crocodile or single venue shows tend to be smaller, but the landscape is different. I don't think that depreciates their entertainment or educational value.

The Crocodile shows are just one step above going to Sportsman's Guide is South St. Paul, and tend to be a few guns and lots of miscellaneous junk and memoribilia. A lot of the vendors are old and crusty like me, and EVEN WEIRDER in some ways.. Don't bring the kids or the SO along!

Never heard of the city or any gun shows there. What do they have, generally speaking, besides leprous, green, spoogey and funky smelling fired 50 BMG cases for cheap?? :P

We will have a few tables at the show, and have some CZ's and a Rock 9mm if not sold before then. Also getting a pallet of Federal .22 LR, which we will have available at pre-panic pricing if anyone is looking for it. I assume the show will be VERY busy, so if you are looking for a particular gun, get there early.

If it is anything like Rochester, stay home. It was a cluster of crap and the prices looked like Gun Broker.

We won't be there as we don't have enough inventory right now to make it worth all the time, but it's
generally a real good show.
(I do have a new P229 left if you're looking for new)
This is the 2nd one at the River Centre this winter as MWCA couldn't get into the Mpls Convention Center.
Prices may reflect the current market so be prepared.
