50 Cal GI Ammo Box? Looking for lowest price

Postby jgutz21 on Sat Apr 06, 2013 5:19 pm

I was at Fleet Farm and noticed they had them in stock for......$20, a little to rich for my blood. Anyone know of a good web site that has them in stock for a good price after shipping? Otherwise I found a site that has plano 50 cal plastic storage bins for $10 after shipping. I just like the look an feel of the GI steel cans.

Thanks
John

There's usually a guy at the MWCA shows selling them for $15/each. I have not seen them any cheaper locally. Arnzen Arms carries the plastic versions for $10, too. I tried one and even full they are pretty sturdy. The only issue is they are bulkier than the GI can.

I have 50 and 30 cal GI surplus cans, as well as those taller plastic ones that Cabellas sells with or without bulk ammo in them. I really like the plastic ones over the GI surplus metal ones to tell you the truth. Once I had to reach up on the roof of the rifle range shooting positions cover where an errant piece of brass bounced up on and all I had was two of the plastic ones with me. I stacked them one on top of the other and stood on them and they didn't flinch from my 265lb load. I highly recommend them. Mine are well built in terms of quality and they don't rust. They're about 10 years old, so I don't know if the current production ones have held the same quality. I don't get to Cabellas very often.

I also concur that there is usually an ammo can dealer at the mwca shows. Don't remember the guys name. 30 cal cans about 9 or 10 each, and regular 50 cal cans about 12 to 15 each, all usually in really clean great condition. About the best price i've seen for really clean cans. Sometimes has bigger cans like 40mm or cans for nvg's etc.

If you don't want to go to the shows, the FF cans are clean and saves you shipping, which for cans can be pretty spendy because of their bulk.
