1. Get some kits/guns play around and put them together. *these are AK Romy and Maddy kits with turned down yugo barrels MINUS Reciever 7.25" barrel length. We play around with 6" barrels as well but those require front sight-gas block combo- **those kits are the shortest kits around with out cutting down the bolt carrier**

3. Modified (craigslist find) BBQ grill

4. Bring it up to 185 degrees F (we dont find it nessacary to pre heat our parts unless we are doing more then 20 lbs, the temp drop is minimal and doesnt effect the process. (covering up helps reduce evaporation) we use this zinc phosphate 99% of the time because it give the standard ol school military finish)

5. Place parts in wash make sure the rotate and move any moveable parts (parts will fizz, the process is rather quick 1-2 mins top)

Image

6. Remove parts and place them into clean cool water and rub them down by hand underwater. (helps remove the white milky chalkie residue that tends to show up when parts are dry)

Image

7. Blow off excess water and set back and let the good times roll via G.B . These are parts kit # 47, 48, 49, and 50 since Jan 1.

Very nice work! I prefer the manganese phosphate for the darker finish. Try it some time.

ya i hear ya, most of my personal guns i paint after this process or i have been know to find the dirtiest used motor oil i can find and dunk the whole gun in it (minus furniture) The parkerizing just eats that old oil up and gives it a really kick ass battle field look.

Great re-purposing of the grill burners.

How many guns do you build a year?

complete guns for myself... ummm over 5 under 100 per year...

parts kits minus receiver, i would say over the years the average would be 5-10. However after $#&! hit the fan we thought we'd test the market on G.B and we moved 50 in 2 months. However the supply has all but dried up on fair priced parts kits. Like all good things it must come to an end... But we play around with all types of firearms. We have a pile of 1919A4 30 cal kits complete with side plates to pass the time with until the market settles down.

Short story, back in the day 10+ years ago, a buddy got hooked up with a guy who knew a guy, who knew this guy. Well, he some how got connected and was buying AK kits as scrap metal by the PALLET!!! True story no lie. Its similar to the story of the guy that found a shelby mustang in some guys woods type of story, almost to good to be true but it is. These kits are just cut once (original barrel intact) all numbers matching for the most part... I had heard he bought almost 10 semi loads back in the day and still has a couple that has never even gone through... Rumor has it he brings a pick up truck load to Knob Creek for there big gun shoot/show. Has anyone here been to Knob Creek before? Ive always wanted to go and hit it up but not enough days in the week for me to make it. I just looked at there site and seen that the big show this weekend. :(
