Seeing more and more 223 amd 5.56

Postby heavygunner on Sun Apr 14, 2013 1:14 pm

Been seeing more and more 223 and 5.56 on the shelf's lately and not the big name stores or FF. One store had 5.56 PMC X-Tac XP193 for 12.99 per box with a limit of 2 boxes per person but could buy 2 of them and 2 of other brands. The other store had Fiocchi 223 55gr FMJ for 29.99 per 50 round box with no limit and must have had over 300 boxes. The one store even had gen3 pmags 30rd for 29.99 a bit high for me, but had pro mag ar mags 30rd for 16.99 it was a nice to see a kinda normal store with stuff actually on the shelf and not a gang of people grabbing every thing they see.

Yeah, the store that has the 5.56 PMC let me buy a few more boxes than their limit the other day. And there was still quite a bit left there. But they always let me buy a little more because i shoot it up, and have spent plenty of money there the past couple months on guns alone. And what i buy doesn't end up on armslist or gunbroker. Did you happen to see the BMG sitting there? Seriously been contemplating buying it... But can't decide if i want that or the .338 lapua they have sitting next to it.

Sure did see the 50 been pondering the same thing that's the last piece to my collection :D , but been looking at Sebru 50's there semi auto and a little cheaper then a Barrett, from all the reviews I've been reading there pretty good. I guess one can dream.

Is there law saying I can't buy anymore after selling some? I have a old ruger 22 pistol I rarely shoot so bought a few boxes, I have better thing to do then worry about what people post on here and what they do or sell or buy. Yes I did sell the 22 ammo for a nice price but was cheaper then GB. And now the prices are even higher

Back in January and February me and some friends were buying Wolf and Barnaul .223 from an out of his house FFL not to far from here for .27/round. 5.40/20.. Cheap steel cased stuff. But i heard that some uppers won't shoot that and they have some problems with the coating on their casings heating up and actually sticking. But i've shot quite a bit of it out of my windham weaponry, and never had an issue with it. Even had it pretty hot doing it.

I don't reload. Been thinking about it, but haven't decided to yet. But when i do shoot brass, i'm saving it. Going to wait until i actually have enough to make it worthwhile for someone and then maybe do a little bartering. Trade a whole bunch of brass for maybe a box or two of ammo or something.

I don't know if any manufacturers are still using that particular type of coating. At this point, there doesn't seem to be any difference between Wolf's Polyformance and WPA ammo except the package. I've shot plenty of Wolf, Brown Bear and other steel cased .223 without issue . . . except Tula, which wouldn't reliably cycle the bolt on my M&P. Put it in a Kel-Tec SU-16 and had no problems.

If you have some spare time, take a look at this article on brass vs. steel: http://www.luckygunner.com/labs/brass-v ... ased-ammo/
