New gun range coming to Osseo!

Last night, the Osseo, MN planning commission, on a unanimous 7-0 vote, gave approval to a new 20 lane gun range/shop to be built a block away from city hall and a block off Central Ave in downtown Osseo! Yippee! Only 10 minutes away from me. About 50 people showed up for the public discussion and were given 3 minutes each to speak. About 25 spoke out in favor (including myself) and 5 were against. Heather Martens was nowhere to be seen. My understanding is that it should open in late Fall 2013...like 4 or 5 months from now.

That's very good news. Osseo is a hop and a skip up 169 from where I work and not far from our Patrol HQ. Looks like I'll be volunteering to go do more assignments up at Patrol that spans our lunch period.

I see there is another thread going about this new range in the politics section. Says it now needs to go before the city council. Hmmmmm....Seeing how it flew through the planning commission, that shouldn't be a problem. One elderly lady on the planning commission made a VERY good point. Osseo is hurting for business and revenue. All the highway construction around Osseo is cutting it off from the rest of the metro area. Three school teacher/administrators spoke against this gun range. Well....this little old lady commissioner made the comment that when the school board comes to the city whining for more money....where's the city going to get it?? I think that comment made a resounding impact with people. Well, that and her comment that once built, she may have to stop in and become a "pistol packing mama"...lol.

Anti gun legislators must be getting pretty worried about the 2014 elections. Folks are getting fed up with far left wing nuts and are showing it with all of the new gun ranges sprouting up around the State.

Yes. Indoors, state of the art 20 lanes of fire (but only 25 yards maximum), built by a company that specializes in building indoor ranges. Supposed to come with a gun store, gunsmithing, and classrooms....like Bill's, but better! Saw all the drawings and "artists renderings" at the meeting.

One also must ponder the possibility of the current state of panic, over inflating the market, creating a short term bubble. If/when things come back to normal, I question how many of these new shops and ranges will survive

On the site where they want to build, that's about all that will fit. The city also mandated a minimum of 32 off street parking spaces, so that took up some more room.

Well, after..or IF, all this panic subsides, all those people with new guns and/or cases of ammo they can't sell for exorbitant prices are going to need somewhere to shoot. I think business for ALL ranges will be very good for quite a while.
