There's a whole thread discussing the issue linked above... clueless TSA agents can still ruin your day. Technically someone who understands the difference between a "bullet" and "ammunition" gets that a bullet is just an inert chunk of copper and lead would likely get that a box of bullets is as harmless as a ream of paper... however a TSA gate agent who knows nothing about shooting/firearms making $12 an hour likely does not and is going to take keen interest in that box that says "bullets, qty 500" in your carry-on.
Add to this that he's flying out of the CHICAGO airport and I'd figure best case it's going to involve a delay/confrontation at the checkpoint, or worst confiscation of the bullets and complicated local PD involvement. I can see the anti's wet-dream headlines headlines now.. "man attempts to board plane full of nun's and orphans with 500 bullets designed for the baby slaying AR-15 assault rifle in his carry-on bag!"
