Purchasing question

Postby Lights on Thu Aug 15, 2013 9:34 am

My brother just left Cabelas in Rogers. He was there to buy his son a Mossberg AR22. They would not sell him one without a PTP. This is the same basic gun as their 702 right? What gives? Is a PTP now required to purchase a evil black .22LR longun?

Yep.

You have the liberals to thank for that.

Minnesota defines any "Colt AR-15 semiautomatic rifle type;" as an assault weapon. Cabelas is probably just being overly cautious...

"(2) any firearm that is another model made by the same manufacturer as one of the firearms listed in clause (1), and has the same action design as one of the listed firearms, and is a redesigned, renamed, or renumbered version of one of the firearms listed in clause (1), or has a slight modification or enhancement, including but not limited to a folding or retractable stock; adjustable sight; case deflector for left-handed shooters; shorter barrel; wooden, plastic, or metal stock; larger clip size; different caliber; or a bayonet mount; and"

As an "assault weapon", it's treated as a handgun, not typical long gun.

You think they count the fore-grip as a barrel shroud? If you do apparently you're not alone. :(

Got to love them stupid laws. Dress up a 702 to a AR22 and it goes from just a longun to an assault rifle.

I wish we still had liberty, instead of being ruled by fear and stupidity.

I bought a Crosman M4-177 and had it shipped to my door. :D

I guess they draw the line somewhere...

I still don't understand the big fuss. It's not like it's difficult or costs money to get a permit to purchase. There are much worse states. Just be glad we don't have a waiting period for every gun you buy. It took me two days to get my PTP and now I can walk into a store and walk out with a gun in under 30 min. That's pretty good in my opinion.

It's are "right" to be able to purchase a firearm not a privilege that is granted to us by the chief of police. Plus he still needs to go though the nics check. If he wanted to buy a 702 (same action parts) he would not need a PTP.

I think that "they" define a "barrel shroud" as a device that lets one "hold or support the firearm with the non-trigger hand without being burned" , label it a characteristic of an "assault weapon" and I think that "they" count the quad rail as a barrel shroud.
