Used AR-15 sale

Postby Terrence Martin on Wed Aug 21, 2013 1:59 pm

Looking for suggestions;
I am selling my AR-15 to a person I do not know. Where is the appropriate place to meet where he has enough time to look over the gun, and we both feel comfortable meeting.
His suggestion was to meet at his house, and I don't feel comfortable doing so. Input is greatly appreciated.

Go to the parking lot of pretty much any gun range. It has the safety of a public place, and the people aren't likely to freak out at the sight of an AR.

Not a lot of places that like the idea of modern sporting rifles uncased in public...a range or an FFL are the only two I can think of.

If you're discreet and park next to each other it shouldn't matter a whole lot. So long as you din't break any laws....I've bought and sold AR's in parking lot's without issue (before I had an FFL)

Most ranges, especially in urban areas, would not appreciate seeing an uncased AR-15 being passed around in the parking lot. They work very hard with the community and public safety departments to assure them that this doesn't happen.

meet at a range - allows for a full function test - buyer can be satisfied that it is what he wants - you can split the cost. You walk in with the gun and he with cash - he likes it- you leave with cash and he the gun. He is going to want to try it out anyway and what better sales tactic than a test drive..................

I heard that schools and post offices where both great locations for this, but that was on the interweb so maybe check that out first. :P

On a serious note, you are selling so you should set the terms. Do it in a place you are comfortable with. I have done it at my workplace, of course my work place is gun friendly so that works. I have also done it at my home but only with folks that are well known on the forum whom I have met. Buying I have met in various parking lots and the seller has kept it in the back of his car where it could be uncased and inspected without prying eyes.

in front of a Gander mountain or Cabela's would be a great Idea...

I've bought and sold guns in front of a Gander.. and in front of a Target...

Who's a troll? The one-post wonder or one of the replies?

Go to a gun shop like The Gun Stop or Arnzen Arms, they will do the transfer for you.

For whatever reason, I seem to meet folks at Wal-Mart most of the time. Never had an issue.
