Local Cerakoter or Duracoater?

Postby Ty179 on Sun Sep 29, 2013 8:11 pm

I'm looking to get my front sight posts for a few rifles done in a vibrant color. My eyes are bad, so a bright pink, orange, etc. really helps.

Does anyone do or know someone who does this on the side?

Thanks!

If you're just doing the sights I'd go with either model paint or nail polish and do it yourself. It should last just as long for much less cost.

Usually nail polish is my go-to, but I'm fairly certain it'll get fairly beat up going back in. Granted I can always touch it up...

Go to a store that has jig paint for fishing tackle. Works great!!

That's an interesting suggestion--I like it, thank you!

Bumping this so the actual topic can be answered. Does anyone know a local cerakoter? I searched the Cerakote dealer list and there's one about an hour and a half west, but I'd prefer someone closer. I plan on doing something incredibly stupid with my next AR, an SBR, and due to its use of many different colors I'd like to spread out the applications (and costs) while the Form 1 paperwork is in the mystery zone of NFA processing and approval.

Maybe a little off topic but what kind of texture does the cerakote have?

Older thread back from the dead. Anyone local doing cerakote? Not getting a response from either source noted in this thread. Rather not ship if it can be avoided. Also, thoughts on Cerakote vs. Duracoat? I have heard Cerakote is the more durable product.

Ahlman's does duracoat. I have a bunch of pistol parts with them which should be ready in the next week, I can post impressions then.

I have not done business with Atomic, but I walked in the door and I quickly walked back out. I was not impressed with product selection or the fact the 3 guys behind the counter didn't engage with me. I frankly couldn't imagine their business model. Sorry, not meaning to be rude, just one guy's impression.

A friend had Atomic Tactical do his AR recently and it came out fantastic. Obviously turn around will vary but they had his done in 2 or 3 days.

If you have seen the maroon derringer that gets sold on here about once a year it was a home done duracoat about 7 years ago and still going strong. Derringer was one of those fun things to try and then pass it on ;-)
