What to do this winter.....

Well it's a sad time of the year. It is that time when most stop shooting sports and turn to hunting which is then followed by a prolonged retreat indoors. This year, unlike years past, has left me wondering what I will do this winter. Good planning and fortune have left me with a limited amount of reloading to do, no new build projects and some time left over from work to pursue a hobby of my choice. It's hard to go from shooting sporting clays and 3 gun to shooting static paper targets indoors.

With that being said, what do you do all winter to keep active with shooting?

Horse and Hunt is open year round. I have shot sporting clays standing on snow more than in the summer.

I like to shoot clays, local league goes year-round but I also have my own automatic thrower so I can go whenever.

Thinking about a 10/22 build for the winter myself, just need to find a cheap starter rifle to build from as receivers alone cost as much as a 10/22 Carbine.

Lakes are frozen and fish are hitting. Hunting, shooting, and ice fishing for me. Even fired up my ice auger after coming home from hunting yesterday. September through ice out is the besr time of the year.

I've actually got quite a few gun-related stuff planned:

Draw/dryfire practice so I suck less at IDPA next season (maybe shoot some indoor matches, time permitting)
Set up temporary reloading bench in spare bedroom (too cold in garage)
Work up fairly accurate 5.56 range loads, 5.56 accuracy loads, and some 300 Blackout loads
Build dedicated 22 AR upper for training
Build lower for accuracy gun (funds permitting)
Build shelving for ammo, ammo cans, and reloading components

That's about 20% of what I would like to get accomplished. Whether I get to it is another story...

Dust off that Clay's gun, get a set of snowshoes and do a little bunny hunting. Good exercise, good practice and good eating. Season runs well into the winter....

Do some reloading, the girlfriend had some projects to do to the house this winter and lots of PS4!

Might try to do some ice fishing since the boat was broke almost all year and didn't get my fill of being on the water.

Re-organize reloading room, build another reloading bench specifically for Dillon reload equipment, fix hot plumbing to new brass wash tumble area (hot water line broke off under con rete floor), clean machines and shop area, re-organize so I can find what I know I have somewhere, Reload, Reload, & RELOAD. 50BMG rifles need attention for next year. Need to teach BigDog58 how to work 50 brass for match shooting, RELOAD, RELOAD, RELOAD. SHOOT.

I hate the cold, so besides putting together a target 10/22, I'll be doing lots of watching movies. Prolly gain 10 pounds or so...

I moved into a new house a couple months ago, so I'll be setting up my gun/reloading room. Probably load copious quantities of 9mm, 12 ga target loads, and some 5.56/.223; and start working on some .308 and 7mm08 loads. If I have time after all of that and assuming my wrist heals to the point where I can handle it, I'll get the snowmobiles out and do a little riding.

Realistically with 3 kids I'll probably spend more time sledding and building snow forts than shooting at the range/farm (which I enjoy in the winter), but that's fine with me.

Hopefully MN3GunGroup will get anxious and have a couple winter 3-gun matches. Otherwise dryfire is a good way to keep skills tuned up. Varmit hunting on snowshoes is fun if you have the property or permission from people that do.
