Yep, won't be shooting F-class, though.

Cool. Make sure you get down to the pits to see what's going on there. It's very important to know how that part works in case you decide to come back and shoot a match sometime.

Keep an eye on Erik, he'll show you how it's done.

Erik,

Are you going to shoot the 185 Juggernauts this weekend?

Nope, I only shoot 155's now. Can't shoot the heavies at Camp Perry the next 2 years, so I've put them away for a while. I haven't shot anything but 155's for MR or LR since last summer.

Are you going out for CMP week this year?

Nope, my life is too much of a train wreak this year to make it to Perry.

If the weather looks OK, I plan to stop in for a bit of observing.
Just an FYI, (maybe it's a common occurrence, I've only been there a few times- all in the past month) the pits have been really wet; standing/ flowing water. There might be enough planks to stand on, but I've never seen a full crew at at work there.

Since this is my 1st competition to observe, can someone give me a synopsis of what takes place besides the shooting part? Like, how many lanes shot at a time, etc..? To my understanding, this is a 1000 yard comp. Correct?

Yeah, waterproof shoes are always a good idea there, and lots of DEET. They scraped out the area right in front of the carriers some last year and it did help a bit, but it has basically been wet there since I started shooting there in 2007. You can watch the water run out of the bottom of the pit wall on the east end almost all the time.

The shooters will be divided into 3 relays, one will shoot, one will score and one will man targets in the pits. The number of targets shot will be determined by how many show up.

Saturday's Long Range match will be all shot at 1000 yards. Sunday's Palma match will be shot at 800, 900 and 1000 yards.

Here's the program for the match weekend. http://www.mrra.org/downloads/grrc/2014_LR-Palma_Champ.pdf

So, did you go? Did you have a good time? Are you coming back tomorrow with a rifle?

XDEd, how about you?
